Bitterbranch
A drug with sedating, euphoric effects. It is commonly used, manufactured, and sold by the Suktu on the southern continents of Chengai and Tasawa. It's highly addictive and can be lethal in large doses. Though its extract can be used in low amounts for medicinal purposes, it's primarily used in higher doses as a recreational narcotic. It is currently legal to grow, possess, and distribute in most places.
Mechanics & Inner Workings
When ingested, bitterbranch causes drowsiness and euphoria. It's commonly taken to boost a person's mood, make pain more tolerable, or aid with anxiety and sleep difficulties. Too much being ingested at once can cause vomiting, loss of consciousness, or even death depending on the dose. It's highly addictive and causes dangerous withdrawal effects if taken too often.
Manufacturing process
Bitterbranch as a drug comes from the leaves of the bitterbranch tree, which are harvested, dried, and ground into tea or a fine powder. The tea is steeped and drunk, while the powder is mixed with any liquid, distilled into a more potent extract, or (less commonly) compressed into pills.
