Regardless of their differences, all intelligent races hold a few traits in common. These mental, emotional, and physical traits mirror the three
Facets of Consciousness that are present within each sentient individual.
MENTAL QUALIFICATIONS
In order to be considered an intelligent race, a species must be capable of self-awareness, the application of prior experience and knowledge in new situations, and complex communication through a form of language. The creation of or engagement within one or more cultural groups is also a necessity.
EMOTIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
Another pair of important aspects for each intelligent race are their ability to put themselves in another creature's shoes and their urge to create works of art. Though individual members of a race may lack empathy or creative talent, as a whole, their people must have both traits.
PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS
Most intelligent races are bipedal (aside from the
Camua.) All have at least one set of arms with digits capable of fine motor skills and opposable thumbs. One being by themselves cannot constitute an intelligent race, there must be others of their kind and they must be capable of producing new members of their species in some way.
