Spelltesting Hall
The Spelltesting Hall is a centrally-located building within the Foul Grove where the Grovedwellers go to appraise those whispers of the flesh trees that they believe to be undiscovered spells. The Hall is outfitted with twelve permanent protective circles engraved into the floor and stocked with various supplies that mages would find useful.
Purpose / Function
When the Grovedwellers believe the flesh trees of the Foul Grove have uttered a new spell, they always rush to document and test their findings. The Spelltesting Hall provides a safe, contained area for them to see exactly what the spell does and make notes regarding its usefulness. Without the Hall, the Grovedwellers would have to test their spells outdoors or in their homes. This has proven to be dangerous in the past when homes have been destroyed or uncontained environmental effects have run rampant.
Alterations
Parts of the building have been damaged and repaired since it was constructed. Over the years, as new discoveries have been made that would increase their effectiveness, the Hall's protective circles have been adjusted and renewed. The Hall has also gained a few additional rooms tacked on to its sides. These serve as archives for important records and copies of the Grovedwellers' magical findings.
Architecture
The Hall is long and low in structure. It's built simply-yet-sturdily in a rectangular format. Its walls are made of stone and its roof is made of timber. Inside, support beams divide the Hall into three sections, each containing four protective circles for a total of twelve spelltesting areas.
Defenses
The Spelltesting Hall is kept under scrutiny by several guards at all hours of the day. Not only do these guards ensure that the archives are protected, they keep an eye on the inside of the building so that nobody undergoing duress as a result of testing a spell goes unnoticed.
History
After years of experimenting with spells in their homes and in vacant clearings, the Grovedwellers collectively decided that they needed a better place to do their work. Construction on the Spelltesting Hall began shortly thereafter. Because building the Hall was a group effort, it didn't take long to complete. Since then, it's been in continual use for over three centuries, with generations of mages making use of its circles and adding to its archives. Though parts of the building have suffered damage due to spells backfiring and natural aging, it's been maintained meticulously through the years and is still in marvellous working order.
Tourism
Grovedwellers from the far ends of the Foul Grove travel to the Hall in order to use its protective circles, but that's the extent of the visitors the place receives. As with the rest of the Grove, the Hall's existence is little-known to most outsiders
