Taia’s Prosthetic Legs (TAI-ah)

After Taia Welsyna lost her legs, she was overwhelmed with fear. The idea of living a life without the ability to walk on her own struck depression into her heart. Luckily, her resourceful nature and sheer determination kept her from succumbing to her misery. She sought out a craftsperson and a healer who were able to work together in creating a set of prosthetics that were both functional and beautiful. Creating the prosthetics took time and experimentation, as did the process of learning to use them, but the end result was deeply rewarding. These days, few who meet Taia even realize that she uses prosthetics because she walks freely wherever she pleases with nothing more than a limp.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

The prosthetics are hollow in areas to ensure that they aren't too heavy. In order to put them on, Taia places her residual legs into sockets at the tops of the prosthetics, then laces panels that function like corsets around her lower thighs to ensure that they stay firmly attached to her body.

Manufacturing process

The healer and craftsperson who created the prosthetics toiled in tandem for months, carefully working to ensure that the prosthetics fit Taia's body perfectly and provided as much ease of use as possible. The craftsperson only moved on to the decorative carving after the shapes and measurements had been perfected.
The prosthetics are delicately carved with imagery of moon phases and stylized flowers. The silver filigree and pieces of polished rose quartz respectively outline and fill the elaborate shapes.

Significance

Taia still grieves the legs she was born with, but even so, she has grown to love her prosthetics because of what they mean to her. Not only do they allow her to retain her freedom and mobility, they're beautiful enough to be considered works of art.
