The Ziggurat

In the centre of Tyr stands the huge multi layered and multi coloured structure that is Kalak’s Ziggurat. For the past 20 or so years it has been the sole focus of the king, to the point that all of the citues resources and the majority of its slaves have been requisitioned onto the project. Although the building work has been going on for such a long time it is still unclear how long is left until it is finished. The construction has brought much of the economy of Tyr to a standstill with the exception of slavery and stonemasonry which is booming and has caused some of the merchant houses to become very rich indeed, despite the crushing taxes. Some have dared to say that they would hope the Ziggurat would never be complete lest they be out of a job.

¨The great ziggurat towered above the squalor of the sun-baked city. Each level of the terraced pyramid was finished in glazed brick of a different color: gleaming violet at the base, then indigo, azure, green, yellow, fiery orange, and, finally, scarlet. In the center of the huge structure, a pair of mighty bastions marked each of the seven levels. The bastions flanked an enormous staircase, which ran straight from base to summit, reaching for the flaxen moons that hovered over the monument’s lofty crown and infused the hazy predawn sky with an amber blush.¨
