Security
Around AD 2175, in most of London the fragmented society depends on security. Spying devices from one borough might use dramatically different technology than that used by another, which makes them very hard to thwart or even to recognize.
In the story series, "Dash Copper - Male Detective", we learn that social fragmentation has drifted the verdant Surrey Hills area Southwest of London into a veritable cosplay of Queen Victoria's 1880's. Only a few miles away Cyberpunks with glowing neon hair are the norm. In some regions the highest electronic technology is worn openly by everyone who is anyone. In others, like Surrey Hills, the simple life is treasured.
But some things are universal. One such thing is business. Among Goths and Cyberpunks alike, business is business. And knowing your competitors and their plans and progress can determine your business's survival or death.
Around London, Duchess Victoria Copper is known as the Duchess of Electronic Security. One can bet that any house fly on her estate is actually an electroanimatronic camera and listening device. Any fly on the wall may be reporting to the Duchess.
In Episode 1, "Murder at the Broadwood Estate", the Duchess sends her husband, Dash Copper to personally deliver a business proposal (using no electronics so that the message cannot be intercepted electronically) to the Marchioness Broadwood in her stately manor house...
…when a murder occurs!
Has someone been spying on the Marchioness and Dash? Or was the murder during their clandestine meeting just a coincidence?
Security can certainly be a matter of life and death when a person as wealthy as the Marchioness is changing her mind about her business plans and associates. And a Duchess with an inexpensive launcher system for the Marchioness' orbital satellites could be a very valuable frenemy.
