Ashen Days Outline

Angels and devils secretly walk among us and have been since the race of humans were still apes. Their very existence helps spread goodness or evil in the world and for the most part, their numbers were equal. In the past millennia, however, the number of devils has slowly but steadily grown as more and more angels have lost faith due to the absence of God's voice and cut their own wings off to join Lucifer's ranks of fallen angels. With the growing number of devils, evil and darkness had slowly but steadily been growing on Earth despite the resistance of the remaining Angels. Within the past few decades, the Angels have lost a large number of their ranks as many have come to despise humans for the wicked deeds they do and disillusioned with God whom they have not heard the voice of more many a millennia.
In September of 2018, police officers in New York shot what they believed to be an unarmed black man. Instead, he was an angel in disguise. A fact that became known when instead of bleeding red, he bled gold when he died. Mass hysteria consumes the public as they came to believe aliens were living amongst them and were indistinguishable from 'normal' humans, and bias and bigotry results in neighbor attacking neighbor convinced they're aliens. While all of this is going on, the remaining angels get together to figure out a plan or if they can even do anything to mitigate the evil that has been infused into the world with this outpouring of hatred. Some of the angels in attendance despair over the current circumstances while others, who are close to falling declare that humans should be allowed to do the thing they have wanted to do since the beginning: destroy themselves. A group of angels decides that the only thing they can really do is hunt down and destroy Lucifer and his fallen angels so, they set out to find him by going after fallen angels living in New York in the hopes that one of them will know where Lucifer is.
But in a time when anyone deemed 'other' is attacked, can destroying Lucifer make a difference? Or will humanity destroy itself? Can they even find him in the first place? Is this the correct path? Or has God been silent all these years because God has abandoned humanity and the angels and devils living on Earth?
