Forest War

The Forest War was an attack on the Forest Folk of Ixipus Forest by the Goblins in 35930 Second Age.   The Goblins of Nilbog, in an attempt to expand their territory, marched on Ixipus Forest, assuming the Forest Folk would be easy to conquer. However, owing to their deep knowledge of the Forest and the support of Ificrastos, the Folk tore through the Goblins with ease. Driven by their desire to protect their beloved Forest, a connection deeper and more meaningful to them than the Goblins could understand, the creatures of the Forest proved to be an intense and unrelenting adversary. Despite the fact that the Goblins perfected their recent invention of gunpowder during the siege, the Folk's use of guerilla attacks (a new invention) and the Weasels' and Ferrets' sophisticated knowledge of ranged combat, the Goblins were repelled in a matter of months.

The Conflict

Outcome

The Forest Folk, having proven themselves capable of defending the Forest, turned their attention to preparation. Though their victory was relatively easily won, the leaders of several prominent Clans worried that too much had been left to chance. The Folk invested a great deal of time and resources on defenses and preparation, vowing to never be caught off guard by an attack again.

Aftermath

  • Establishment of the Turtle Guard
  • Envoy program with the Resistance

Historical Significance

Legacy

The Forest War is spoken of throughout Athua with equal parts reverence and astonishment. Though the Forest Folk were previously seen as a harmless and docile civilization, the world came to understand that their peace was intentional and fiercely protected. No other major attacks on the Forest have taken place -- those bold or stupid enough to try have been repelled easily by the Turtle Guard.
