Tabaxi

The Tabaxi are a species of catfolk originating on the Tabax archipelago. According to Dragon records, the Tabaxi were the first land species to achieve sentience. The Tabaxi wasted no time in spreading across the globe, creating sea travel and settling the island of Shamal within the first century (Common Era).   Driven by a spirit of curiosity and exploration, the early Tabaxi sailed first to the southern island of Janub and later to the western island of Gharb. Prizing the pursuit of knowledge, the Tabaxi founded Abhash Yaktashif, the world's first university, library, and research center, in the year 310 CE.   The Tabaxi are known to have formed regional clans during the fourth century, and began to diversify their culture. While interaction between the clans was common, the wildly varied climates of the Tabax archipelago led to the clans developing very different lifestyles.   Building on their expertise in shipbuilding and sailing, the Tabaxi invented air travel in the mid-fifth century, beginning with hot air balloons and soon moving on to propulsion engines.   Like many cultures of the world, the Tabaxi's first interaction outside of their species was with Inkidu, with whom they formed an alliance towards the end of the fifth century.   The Tabaxi founded their second university city, Tahqiq, in 705.   The Tabaxi were targeted by the High Elves in invasions of 752, and suffered major losses.   Near the end of the eighth century, the Order of Invention recruited the Tabaxi, along with the Dwarves, in the study of identifying mimics.
