Eire
Eire is a beautiful green island country to the west of Saxony. It is home to one of the largest community of elves in the Western Kingdoms, most of which reside in the forested interior or the island. The outer extents of the island are largely populated by humans whose fishing villages surround the coast and estuaries.
In 743 PD, Willem the Bastard, after having failed in his invasion of Saxony, successfully invaded and managed to control the eastern coast of Eire. His descendants managed to hold on to the land for centuries, using the division of the human tribes of the west coast against the divisions of the elven factions of the interior. Centuries of clan and faction warfare were hard to knit together but eventually the humans of the western coast and the elves signed the Treaty of Shannon and united against the invaders. The war was bloody and long and finally culminated in the Battle of Howth Castle, where the Alliance of Shannon broke the back of the centuries long incursion onto their lands.
Eire was finally united and the famous Howth University stands as a monument both to that final battle and to the strength of peace that unity provides.

Structure
Eire is broken up into a series of counties that were the original tribes and factions that signed the Treaty of Shannon. More counties were added after unification. County leaders have a number of titles based on the historical term used by the original tribe, but each votes in a council of elders presided over by an elected (and traditionally elven) elder.
Culture
Elven culture is the primary culture of Eire. While some coastal counties have traditions of their own, they embrace elven culture as well, adding their own traditions to it as well.
Public Agenda
Eire prefers to remain neutral in the squabbles of the rest of the Western Kingdoms, instead capitalizing on the trade that neutrality brings. They absolutely want nothing to do with the colonization of the new world.
