K'Thonum Magic

One of the primary reasons for the K'Thonum to invest themselves in the world of Atlantica was the resource that they knew as T'Shole.  This created ready access to the highly valuable if morally disgusting resource.  T'Shole could be refined into both a fuel as well as a conduit for magical power for that fuel.  This allowed the K'Thonum to create highly advanced magic that was powered around the world by a series of stations that broadcast the power to all K'Thonum devices in range.

When the Antikathonum attacked with the spell that caused the Great Darkening, the K'Thonum were faced with being forced off the world or the collapse of their entire way of life in their home dimension.  The spell that went awry caused many of the broadcasting stations and power sources to explode, as well as simply shift the way they emitted power (causing the corruptions you see today).  These explosions caused several partial chain reactions around the world destroying much of the K'Thonum magical infrastructure.

What survives today are usually independently powered artifacts, and power sources that have twisted or no longer cease to function at all.  Much of the K'Thonum tech was so advanced that replicating it with current tools is impossible, even if it weren't morally unfeasible.  Some cults have managed to hijack the occasional artifact, and in some cases have used them to increase their power and numbers, but for the most part they are actually assisted by the remaining K'Thonum that are still awake.  They did not do this on their own.  Indeed, even being in possession of a K'Thonum artifact without taking the necessary precautions could open one to K'Thonum influence.

For this reason alone, the Antikathonum hunt and destroy K'Thonum artifacts.  The remaining awakened K'Thonum are few, but are often using the artifacts to influence weaker minds in the hopes of one day re-establishing K'Thonum rule.
Scrolls from long ago tell us that there was at one time giant red capstones at the top of the Great Pyramids.  Their function is long lost to us, but we do know that the K'Thonum used peoples souls to make and power the items.  The stones may be gone, and that is a loss to how they did what they did, but perhaps there are some things we should be glad are gone, for, what would we do with such a magic?
