Queen Emelia Herschlag

Queen Emilia Herschlag started life as the daughter of a widowed seamstress in what was then a minor region.  Her latent talent for magic became apparent when she turned 16 during a brief romance that ended suddenly and horribly when her town was attacked.  She found herself unintentionally living the life of adventure that she never really wanted.
As her power and experience grew, Emilia found herself hob-nobbing with the nobility of her region.  Her talent, charisma, and frankly the fact that she was a "neutral" outsider allowed her to establish herself as a Sorceress of great wisdom and repute.
In time she began to see an opportunity to unite the lands of German speaking people into one new nation diplomatically.  While the nobility of the various factions did not like the fact that they were not the heads of the new state, they saw the great need of unification, and by giving it to her instead of some other noble family they were at least sated with that.
Her efforts were not single handed, she often expounds that she was merely the "Midwife to the birth that already ached to happen," and in so doing credits everyone involved.  Her leadership style seems to sooth the ego's of the Thuringian nobility.  In fact she plays the game of "look how awesome we are when you help out" quite well.
Her skill as a Sorceress is often overlooked due to her political style.  Her adventuring life before becoming queen has turned her into one of the most formidable magic users in the Western Kingdoms, a fact that she prefers to have ignored for reasons of her own.
When I met her, it was intense. Her focus was completely on me and it felt like she was paying close attention to everything that I had to say.
