Shield of Saxony
This ancient and missing shield was purportedly wielded by several kings of Saxony, most notably Harold Godwinson, who in many Saxon histories is called Harold the Great or sometimes Harold the Defender. This magic shield was used in two famous battles, the Battle of Stamford Bridge against the Nordenlant, and again against Willem the Bastard and his own Norden related armies from across the channel in Aquataine . The shield is said to possess the power to make arrows go astray or fall short when wielded by the head of an army.
According to legend Harold bore the shield to battles and on excursions, as well as hung it above and behind his throne on display when he was in court. The shield was of ancient Norden design, round and purportedly covered in runes made of thick golden yarn or thread stitched into the leather which covered the wooden shield. In addition, the edge of the shield was shod in high quality shining metal of some kind, the material of which has been speculated on by mages and historians alike. Finally at the center of the shield was a roundel of cold wrought iron with a large gemstone embedded in it.
According to legend this shield was spirited away upon King Harold's death to some unknown location to be returned in Saxony's greatest hour of need. More than one expedition and excavation has been made at the behest and financial backing of the Library of Saxony. The shield remains unfound.

Storyteller Spoiler:
The legend of the shield is indeed real, however, it was not spirited away, but instead was buried with King Harold in a secret and blessed panel beneath his body in the sarcophagus in which he was buried. Harold himself arranged this with the priests of the Petros Abbey of Londinium. The Shield is buried here in an attempt to imbue its blessing and shielding magic upon the whole of the kingdom. While the attempt was in earnest it has little real effect. The leadership of the abbey are aware of its existence and placement, and have instructions to reveal the shield if the kingdoms existence is ever truly and direly threatened, and then to return it again when the crisis is averted.
