Witch Hunters of Saxony
King Jacobs fascination with witches did not simply end with passing laws that banned certain kinds of magics. He also commissioned a law enforcement branch to seek out and bring to justice witches that were in his kingdom. In the early years they were funded and trained well, and caught many. However as time went on and subsequent kings assumed the crown, they found their funding cut over time. Today there are far fewer of them than ever. Wisely they have been barred from supplementing their income.
Witch Hunters are liked by few. There are far more stories of how witch hunters have torn apart communities looking for witches than those that have been saved by them. While they wield the authority to do what they need, they are seldom actually welcomed into a community, and tend to be reviled. People who accept the job tend to be already misplaced by society, prone to needing power, being slightly sadistic, and lacking in concern for how they are viewed by others around them. They seem to enjoy forcing communities to reveal their inner secrets and hold up the most salacious rumors and secrets for ridicule regardless of whether its related to witches or not.
There is a silent movement in the nobility to disband the Witch Hunters, and yet somehow the monarchs of Saxony have allowed them to persist. It is not understood fully why this is. The Witch Hunters do not provide income to the kingdom, nor do they create an internal atmosphere of unity for the kingdom.
The witch hunters are based out Hopkins Castle on the edge of Londinium used for trials, training, and holding prisoners. Few that go in as prisoners leave and the odor from fires of witch burnings are frequent.

He rode into town literally on his high horse and began interrogating "suspects" almost right away. He exposed my neighbors love affair with the mayors wife, which got them both ostracized, and ripped this town apart. Never found a witch though, the bastard.
