Mobius

The World

Current article written by SaP research Archivist Levia Nirrinthorp
Mobius is the name of our entire planet, if you could call it that. While the name "Atlas" is used to describe the lands we walk, Atlas ends. To the east and west of the Atlas landmasses, the Panmorganne mega continent and Essermount, are massive, impassable mountain ranges. It is believed that our world is not contained within Atlas alone, but that there are more lands out there, unreachable for us.   Research into the size of Mobius has not produced many results. It is believed possible that the formation could be infinite in length, through magic not yet made clear to us. The following are excerpts from the research documents of an ex-Archivist in the SaP department of the Archive's research branch. She was the creator of the Ad Infinitum theory, saying that our world reaches infinitely long.
Research of Mobius and Beyond Lead Research Archivist, Chronia Lepetit ~ 2849 - 2855 pR   It has been a long time since a subject of research has excited me as much as this perticular one has. The Mobius, the "world." What is it? Where did it come from? Why does it exist? How does it exist? So many question yet to be answered, and with this, I get to be the one to answer them.   It has been a few months since I've started my research. Even though I see great importance in the understanding of our world, it appears the rest of the Archivist Society do not. Thus, I have been given only a small team and budget to do my work.   [...]   It has proven quite difficult to find decisive answers on the nature of this spacial formation. The Border Mountains have proven difficult to understand. As much as I would like to belive that beyond these mountains there exist an infinite number of different planes, other than Atlas, as of now it seems that these mountains may be attached to one another, forming a globe. I'll have to look further into this.   [...]   I think I've found a way to definitively proof wether or not Mobius is a globe or not. I call it "Project Northward." I will explain the plan more if it works out.   [...]   I DID IT!   It may have taken me the better part of a year, but I've found definitive proof that Mobius is not just a globe. I pleaded with head research archivist Merlowe for more of a budget and it proved worth it. She gave me just enough to enact plan Northward. I assembled a small team of seasoned explorers and we set off for the Northern Ice. As most people know, the Northern and Soutron Ice are seen as "impassible" borders of Atlas. Well, we passed one. We lost three good men in the process, but we reached the end of the ice after three weeks of travelling the North Sea and navigating between the Broken Heavens, we reached the snowy coast of the Northern Ice. It took us another week of walking, but we reached the end, or at least, what should have been the end.   If Mobius was a globe, it should end both in the norht and in the south on a singular point. Here we should be able to see the Border Mountains converge into a singular point, which should prove the fact that Atlas is a globe. This is not what we found however. Far from it.   We travelled a week northward, and what did we find? Water. Not just any water though, this was the Suthersea. The towering Faewood forest was visible to us over the coast, the Yggdrasil within it were as clear as day. Unless Mobius stretches infinitely in both north and south, and there is another forest there, we somehow crossed from north to south without the compass changing direction.   [...]   I've made it back to the research station. the long trek back through the Ice and then the task of finding our ship was a grueling one. We were lucky that we all made it back. I brought some samples of the "Southron Ice" we found and I'm going to compare them to samples taken from the Southron Ice (of which we can be certain is our Southron Ice).   [...]   A match!   The samples are the same! There is no end, It's all infinite! This is a breakthrough unlike any other!   Ad Infinitum, is a saying I've uncovered from some old Lowlandian texts. It describes how everything is infinite and perpetually moving. I think it fits quite well on this discovery.
The Ad Infinitum effect or the "Infinity effect" has led the current SaP research division to conclude that Mobius is an infinite plane, linear in form with some form of magic keeping its residents from wandering off of one end.   This has made many believe that there are many, if not an infinite amount of other civilizations, human or otherwise, out there, beyond the Border Mountains.
