Fluid-nose Lynx
These little felines always put a smile on my face. Innocent and beautiful, sometimes even playful.
One would wonder how these little blue-nosed furballs even survive in the wild.
Well. The Fluid Flow they have at their disposal makes their innocence the perfect strategy.
If they ever boop you with their nose or face, you are most likely dead.-Old Raider describing Fluid-Flow lynx to younger ones
Description
The Fluid-nose lynx is one of the beasts that did not need to change that much over time. They got their name after heavily Cyan-Blue pigmented nose and face. Depending on the area they live in, the Fluid nose lynx fur changes color. So far there have been gray, brown, and occasionally brown-green colored ones. The fur of Fluid-nose Lynx often houses few pigment-less spots, which turn cyan-blue as the lynx absorbs Fluid Flow, showing how much of Fluid charge it has. Their whiskers react to the very subtle streams of passing flow. Which allows them to stay away from streams of Flow that are not Fluid ones.Diet
These four-legged lynxes are mainly carnivores, with occasional grass to help with digesting. When various useful herbs are found with bite marks, it can sign the presence of Fluid-nose Lynxes in the area. The meat they eat comes from any biological beast they encounter. The Fluid stored in their body is capable of turning targets of similar size or smaller into Wobbling Flesh or causing significant damage to down larger prey. Fluid-nose Lynx can eat the liquefied biomass of its prey, but it leaves it alone if it detects a stream of Flow.If it can choose, it prefers meat not affected by the Fluid. Presumably a matter of taste.
Behavior
The often playful Fluid-Nose Lynx uses its innocence and playfulness to hunt. Charged lynx touches their target with their nose and releases the stored Fluid Flow into the prey. This causes severe damage to the prey, often killing it. Unless the lynx has enough charge, or it does not believe that the amount it possesses will be enough to win a conflict, it often shies away from fighting. If the lynx is not actively hunting, it is actively chasing Flow Streams trying to recharge itself. When Fluid-nose Lynx finds the Fluid Flow, its pigmentation starts luminiscention as the Fluid reacts to itself. During the recharging process, the white fur pigments on its fur start turning cyan-blue as it stores the Fluid Flow. Outside of hunting and recharging, the Fluid-nose Lynxes dig their holes and wander their territory.Habitats
The main habitat of Fluid-nose Lynx is their dug holes, usually housing two to eight lynxes. These holes are big enough to house a batch of offspring. Once the offsprings grow up, they need to move and create their own homes. The territory of Fluid-Nose lynx often contains numerous empty holes, these serve as a distraction from intruders as well as safe places where the lynxes can move in case their current hole becomes compromised. The holes of Fluid-nose Lynx are often in areas where Fluid Flow is in abundance. Therefore the territory is often safer from other species, as the Fluid can have devastating effects on them.Spreading
Once the offspring of Fluid-nose Lynx grow into adults, it needs to make their own hole and start their own life.Sometimes they hang around their parents for some time, but the parents will chase them away as soon as a new batch of offspring appears. These wandering lynxes then create new pairs and start new families. Oftentimes in their territory. But in some cases, a pair of lynxes can leave the territory, or try to spread it. This may trigger an aggressive reaction from other species, and result in competition for territory.
Territory wars on the Ground below are something you both don't want to experience and want to take advantage of. It is the rare time where Raiders can directly influence what is going down there.
Sure the Planners often tell you what side to pick, so it's not our agenda. But there are times where absolutely unexpected conflict appears, and Planners dont know about it. At that moment you feel like a god deciding which species will triumph.
And the Planners don't need to know!-Speech of exiled Raider used as proof in his trial
Relationship to other species
Majority of species on The Ground below are at a sort of cold war with Fluid-nose Lynxes. Their ability to utilize Fluid is devastating, but the lynxes are not able to cover and defend any territory that does not have a source of Fluid Flow. While some species learned and understood the amount of Fluid the lynxes have and started chasing discharged ones. Other species do not shy from challenging even fully charged packs.Relationship to Raiders
Toward Raider the lynxes are playful. Considering humans as their prey, waiting for the moment to attack them.Unaware Raider may end up being lured into a pack of charged lynxes while it considers playing with discharged one as safe. Getting ambushed in that moment of unawareness is extremely dangerous even if it is not a Fluid-nose Lynx.
Dangers, Risks, Strategy, and loot
Apart from their Fluid Flow attack, the next danger comes from their biting. Even discharged lynx has enough Fluid to cause uncomfortable Fluidic Momentum with their bites, reducing movement and combat capabilities of Raiders. The best strategy to counter the Fluid-nose Lynx is to dodge their pounces and attempts to hit with their head and then counter-attack. Awareness of the overall number of lynxes must be kept, as they tend to cover for each other. In treated numbers, the cycle of pouncing is hard to break, as counterattacking would mean getting hit by one of the lynxes covering the others. Downed Fluid-nose Lynxes contain the accumulated Fluid Flow, stored in the pigmented crystalline fur. Inside of its body are numerous bone strands with the same cyan-blue colors. These Fluid crystals formed inside of the lynx body are what allowed it to channel and store the Fluid Flow. Harvesting the Fluid crystals from its bones, and getting the crystalline fur takes a lot of time. Skinning the lynx has little value. its skin has very little protection value and its natural beautiful cyan-blue spots will dissipate if left attached to the skin. The skin beauty will be gone when the Fluid gets harvested from it. The meat of the lynxes can be extracted quickly if one does not care about the Fluid crystals throughout its body. Trying to harvest both the meat and the crystal takes a very long time and often can cause avoidable stress when Raiders need to rush to the extraction points.Details card
