Sustin

Look, kid. Your parents might have cooked for you for your whole life, but the Sustins are the backbone of the economy. It literally is food to keep you alive for another day. With them, you don't die out of hunger. And if you have one with the fruit cake, you probably wont lack vitamins either.

Description

Daily ration as well as the basis for the economy. One Sustin equals enough food to survive a day. While its base version lasts for a mere day or two and provides nothing else than sustenance, the more luxurious recipes create Sustin that last for months and are incomparably tastier.   The Sustin is an oval-shaped mixture of long-lasting food that easily fits a grown man's hand. Its package depends on its quality and recipe. The Sustin is also separated into quarters with wedge-shaped crackers of fruitcakes, each quarter to be eaten as a meal during the day. While this rationing barely fills up the stomach, it prevents hunger and sustains the body.

Usage and value

Because of its nature as food, its trade value depends on its quality, longevity, and undisturbed package. Once the package had been damaged enough to allow air to get to the food inside, the Sustin is considered open and loses all its trade value. Each Sustin from silver and above quality is also marked with an expiration date after which the content of the Sustin will be considered unhealthy to eat.   Thanks to the natural expiration of Sustin, there is no fear of inflating the economy. Any greater influx of Sustin will dissipate after its expiration rate, lasting usually less than a year. Due to this, people tend to prepare the Sustins for trading or as preparation for expected and unexpected hard times.   Some Atocites can get into areas with little to no food, resulting in the long-lasting Sustins often being consumed to survive the expected hard times.   Better meals can often be purchased with Sustin too.
Because the proper meal can use ingredients that often don't last long the wanted payment is often at least silver quality Sustin.   While there may be many options for creating Sustin, only variants agreed upon by the Conjunction of grand Atocites have recognized trade value. The value of the Sustin is determined by its grade, remaining days until the time of expiration, and taste quality determined when Sustin recipe is recognized. All of these are marked on the package of Sustin at the time of its creation by a specific stamp, that was created and handled to the recipe owner as official recognition.

Creation

Depending on the variety, the Sustin is created from varying amounts of dense hard-baked cracker, fried, dried, or cured meat, herbs, and spices for taste, and occasionally fruitcake instead of cracker.
One of the most important ingredients for the basic grade Sustin and the fruitcake are the antibacterial leaves from various plants. These allow the food to be preserved for the duration of the leaves or increase the longevity overall.   Higher grades of Sustin use either drying of the meat or hard to get salts for curing. In these higher grades, the antibacterial leaves are not used, as they impede the taste. Instead of using whole leaves, their extract is used as part of the recipe when creating fruitcakes. The fruitcake sometimes serves as a replacement for the cracker to improve the quality of the Sustin.   The prepared ingredients are arranged to the oval, with the cracker or fruitcake serving as a divider of the quarters.
After the oval-shaped Sustin is created, it is then packaged and marked by the stamp of the corresponding recipe.

Varieties and their longevity

  Poor
Poor quality is the day-to-day worst-case scenario quality. It is rarely used, and if it is, it symbolizes a very dangerous situation for the Atocite. Any Atocite which can afford it prefers to cook better meals from the ingredients instead of creating poor grade Sustins.   However, circumstances and hard times can push some Atocites to temporarily resort to rationing by poor Sustins and using all available better food for their Raider and children.   Characteristics of poor grade Sustin are:
  • 50% cracker/bread, 50% fried or raw Meat.
  • Last 1-2 days
  • Leaf package
  • Very bad taste
  • Used as last option
  •   Good / Silver
Good or also called silver grade Sustins are the basics of the economy on Atocitera. While they don't taste as good as some prepared meals, they last long enough to be stocked for hard times and their consumption is not a hit to the morale as in the case of the poor Sustins   There are many recipes that create silver Sustins, so their value is calculated during each trade.
Some recipes have taste and longevity of gold grade Sustin, but because the owner of the recipe did not believed they could make it for the gold grade, it is instead one of the most valuable silver Sustin instead   The silver Grade Sustins usually:
  • Has at least 50% of itself made out of Dried meat, remaining 50% is hard-baked cracker or fruitcake.
  • Last 1-2 months.
  • Is packaged in a thin metal layer or cloth mixed with rare herbs/leaves.
  •   Luxurious / Gold
Luxurious Sustin is the higher end of the Sustins. Eating one is almost comparable to a whole meal.
There are few recipes for this grade, as their creation is hard to verify during the Conjunction of grand Atocites   The longevity of gold Sustin varies greatly from a recipe by recipe, as well as the taste. The cause for this is the use of spices in the meat, the kind of fruit used in the fruitcake as well as the amount of antibacterial leaf extract used in the recipe.   Gold grade Sustins is usually characterized by:
  • Meat cured with salt and possibly marinated in spices, Fruit cake.
  • Last 4-6 months.
  • Fancy gold like thin metal layer.

  • Item type
    Consumable, Food / Drink
