Godlivine

Godlivine (like olivine, but fancier) is an extremely rare mineral protected by Draconian dragons. Other than dragon bone & claw, it is the hardest material on Aufyra.   There are few places to mine the material, all located in Draconian territory, and even the dragons use it sparingly. It is difficult to harvest, as well: it tends to be found in huge slabs, and only dragons can break it apart and fashion it into usable pieces.   If someone outside Draconia wants some Godlivine, their best bet is to hope that an earthquake or volcanic eruption spits some scraps out of the earth. To trade for some Draconian Godlivine, even kings wince at the price.   Its imperviousness to heat and pressure has gained the attention of researchers who wish to explore the deep sea & earth of Aufyra. No other known material is strong enough to create the submarine they have in mind.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Faintly translucent with a gentle shine

Physical & Chemical Properties

Extremely resistant to heat and pressure. Its limits have not been measured, as researchers don't have any means to test samples further. It won't melt if you stick it in lava, they've learned. Even then, the mineral only ends up mildly warm.

Geology & Geography

Found at the depths of Anchors, such as the Ancient Shrine. Sometimes volcanic and tectonic activity will bring Godlivine to random places on Aufyra's surface.   Some meteorites have been found to contain Godlivine.

History & Usage

History

Fire dragons have used this material since ancient times to shield their homes and sacred places. Its extreme heat resistance makes it ideal for life alongside volcanoes.   The Kingdom of Ignis covets this resource, as their capital is also located in the Fire Mountains.

It's really cool how the material doesn't melt in lava. I can see why it would be very useful for fire dragons!

Thank you! Yeah, so they generally keep it to themselves. :)
