The Creation of Aufyra

All cultures on the planet Aufyra share, at least in part, the same creation myth. Draconia's records date back the longest of anyone's, and tales of Aufyra's creation can be found on the oldest tablets, created during the age of the Hero-Saints.   Regardless of who or where you hear the story from, they all mention a benevolent god becoming the heart of Aufyra, and two key dragon gods, the Dextral and Sinistral. Beyond this point, there are several variations.   Scales of the Sinistral God were collected during ancient times and few have been preserved. In the past, they were used to commune with the Dextral God. While the stories vary, the existence of the gods themselves is considered fact.

Summary

All variations of the myth begin with a singular creator entity.

Once upon a time, there was a jolly god. While drifting through the void of space, it decided to become the heart of a planet.

Blessed with great power, it weaved Aufyra around itself.

To the god, the world it gave birth to existed only in its dreams. It watched over its children, proud of their feats.   Life bloomed from the god, but it couldn’t walk through the garden of its own creation. It quietly sustained the world, its energies circling into the planet and then back to its body in an endless cycle.
Branching from this point, there are several versions of the story.

Variations & Mutation

by Michelle Cachey
Countless years passed. The god was lonely and wanted to be alongside its children. The creatures of the earth didn’t even know that the god existed.   So, the source god came up with a solution. It split into two equal but opposite gods: Sinistral and Dextral.   It intended for the new bodies to take turns; one would stay in the ethereal realm to maintain the flow of the world’s energy, and the other one could materialize in the physical realm and be with its creations.
However, the new deities do not come to a peaceful agreement. After millennia of isolation, they’re sick with loneliness. They convince themselves that whoever gets to visit the physical realm first will never return to the ethereal, leaving the other stranded as the world’s power source forever. The one in the planet's core can not leave. If it did, the planet Aufyra would cease to exist.   The two gods start fighting. Even though the worlds aren't directly connected, the force of the gods duking it out in the ethereal realm jolts the physical realm with horrible side effects. The earth splits, new mountain ranges burst up, and oceans drown cities.   They are equal in strength, though, so the fighting gets nowhere. All it does is hurt their children in the physical world. The world is battered again and again with the devastating aftermath of the gods’ attacks. Everyone living there is in a terrible mental place--they’re terrified, confused, and dying because of the worldwide natural disasters.   Then the Sinistral God has an idea. To tip the scales, it needs additional energy--so it snags the overwhelming negativity that’s consuming the population of the planet. It gains strength, but becomes corrupted, because absorbing a whole world’s worth of bad vibes is not good for your health.   The Sinistral God defeats the Dextral and pops into the physical realm. Unfortunately, the corruption of negativity altered its original goal. Rather than living alongside its creations, it begins their extinction.   The Hero-Saints banded together to fight against this threat.
Similar to the CoK stories, but the Dextral/Light God is referred to as male, while the Sinistral/Dark God is referred to as female.   There is a heavy focus on the duality of the gods and how they guide daily life.
The source god was always a singular entity, known as the Light God. The Dark God that stood against the Hero-Saints was a threat from outside the planet unaffiliated with the Light God or Aufyra.   Ultimately, the Light God couldn't save Aufyra from the encroaching darkness; humanity had to take it into their own hands. Ignis folks tend to glorify the Hero-Saints, with the Light God as an afterthought. The Saints were the saviors of humanity, after all.

Cultural Reception

The sentient races of Aufyra, dragons and humans, believe that they were fashioned in the shape of the gods.    The dragons, while quadrupedal, are the most similar in appearance to depictions of the bipedal god-dragons.   Humans were gifted with the gods' bipedal stature and general body structure.

I love the art, especially the second picture. It's so adorable. <3   This is a great story. I can see why gods fighting would be a great explanation for earthquakes and things.

Aah, thank you so much! I hope to get some time to make new drawings that are not...rough sketches on lined paper. XD That speech bubble is especially goofy, but I'm working with what I got.   Now that I have my basic note-scribblings down, I'm thinking I might expand on this article? I was having fun with this one. I think the Saints battle against God is probably enough to warrant its own article, but I don't want this one to feel too unclear, if that makes sense? Idk, Idk.   Anyway, thanks again. :)

That does make sense. I definitely think the Saints battling God deserves its own article though. :D
