Aranni d'Phiarlan
History
Aranni d’Phiarlan has always stood out. Her albinism, the snow pale skin and hair and pink eyes, meant that she was instantly recognizable from the time she was born. She did have the musical talent expected of a member of her family though and began lessons early in her life. When her dragonmark appeared, it made Aranni stand out even more, appearing on her throat.
When her younger brother came along, he didn’t show the same promise that Aranni did. She didn’t care if he would ever be a great musician though. He was her little brother and she loved him. With the appearance of her dragonmark, Aranni began additional training in the house’s other occupation, separating her from her brother even more. Once her training was complete and Aranni was to be sent out on jobs for the house, she insisted on bringing Seladore along. They were sent to various army camps at various battlegrounds. Aranni performed for the troops, but also entertained higher ranking officers with private performances, meals with good food and wine, and the offer of a sympathetic ear to listen.
One day, Seladore just left. He came to their tent with a strange mask, and packed his things and left. Aranni felt abandoned and betrayed. She had always tried so hard to make sure that Seladore wasn’t left behind, and now, when she needed him most, he disappeared, leaving her to deal with army camps, soldiers, and the war all alone.
As if that wasn’t bad enough, their parents died. Aranni was out on a job when it happened, when something happened. She didn’t get the details of what happened, just that they died violently.
Feeling completely abandoned, Aranni threw herself into her work. She spent very little time at the house, staying out in the field as much as possible. Keeping herself from ever feeling totally safe meant she could avoid thinking too much about, or coming to terms with, her parents’ deaths.
Eventually, Seladore came back. He came looking for her, wanting to repair their relationship. She wasn’t ready to forgive him at first. She had fifty years of abandonment to be mad about. He was persistent though, and eventually, the two did make up and begin working together again.
