Aeturnians (A-tur-ni-an)

Inheritors of Knowledge

Finding sanctuary in the enormous floating islands of the Enchanted Isles, Aeturnians were blessed with great magical power befitting a region alive with magical energies. Most Aeturnians are born with the ability to manipulate electromagnetic forces, creating concussive blasts, allowing themselves to float, slow mid-descent, even conjure lightning. Their enhanced magical blood grants them a longer lifespan than other Aurans, living half again as long, some even closer to 200! Aeturnians are often wise, arrogant, disciplined, and exist in an intellectual society of Wizards, who seek to unlock all the mysteries of magic through diligent research and exploration of magical techniques.   Distribution: The Enchanted Isles, Minos, Myriad

Physical Attributes

Aeturnians stand tall and regal with disciplined straight-backs. They hold themselves with grace and distinction, befitting their lofty perch above all others. Their hair is longer than most, regrowing at a faster rate, and resilient beards that refuse to remain trimmed. They have longer and larger ears, a trait shared by their big noses. Aeturnians are frailer than most with little muscle.

Culture

Aeturnians are born to a lofty society, blessed by powerful magic. They live within tall towers, where magic adorns every hallway and room. They consider themselves superior. Aeturnians are the eternal society, devoted to the endless study and progression of magic. In their later years, they will document their discoveries and add them to the Aeturnus Library, so that they can be taught to the next generation.   Aeturnians are an anomaly. They are a close-knit society working towards a similar goal of progression. However, after graduating from their studies, they will often become insular and segregated from one another in their own pursuit of magical discovery. Aeturnians view magic as the ultimate source of power. Those born in Aeturnus without magic are immediately ostracized and unable to live in their society were magic is a necessity.   Aeturnians are wise but arrogant, self-important, and self-obsessed with a better-than-thou attitude. Legacy is of the utmost importance to their culture. All Aeturnians are raised to understand that making new discoveries in magic, and adding those discoveries to the Aeturnus Library, is the ultimate honour. Alongside lording those discoveries, and your magical power, over rivals, of course.

Nomenclature

Family names are of infinite importance in Aeturnus. With such value placed on legacy, possessing the heritage of a previous great Wizard already gives you an advantage on others! Surnames are placed prominently before your given name. These surnames are rarely altered in any way, unless a significant discovery in magic is made. In which case, the surname is added to by an element of your chosen name. The longer the surname, the greater the heritage, the more prominence of that family in the archives. Names are often inspired by magical energies, phenomena, or power. They must be grandiose. When spoken in a room, that name must carry over all others!

Dress

Aeturnians favour flowing robes. Outfits that have layers, and flourish with every exaggerated movement. Simple robes aren’t enough. Each piece must be distinguished, with intricate details woven into the fabric, and elaborate often endless designs. However, an Aeturnian would never hide his face. It is of the utmost importance you know who he is! If they choose to wear a hat, or glasses, it becomes a part of their identity, permanently! Vibrant colours are important. Anything that will make your outfit pop amidst rivals. You have to stand out, and everything you do has to look resplendent!
