Farlanders

Travellers of the Great Plains

Though many Circles congregated around places of power, the resourcefulness of Aurans enabled many more to survive still. The Farlander tribes of the Great Plains didn’t benefit from a structured society. Roaming the endless plains, and falling victims to the rolling Mists and plentiful monsters, Farlanders do whatever it takes to survive. They raid neighbouring tribes. They fight to replenish dwindling resources. They live in shelters atop enormous Adamantoises, who roam the plains, travelling from watering hole to watering hole. Farlanders are nomadic survivors, gifted in traversing the land, scavenging to survive, and hunting.   Distribution: The Great Plains, Minos, The Misty Barrens

Physical Attributes

You have to be tough and resilient to survive the Great Calamity. In contrast to expected perception, Farlanders are shorter than most, averaging at just over five foot. It turns out, its easier to hide and take cover when you’re shorter. You’re faster at riding when you weigh less. Living in savannah-like heat has granted them darker sunkissed skin, or dark skin. Farlander’s are naturally muscular. Physically fit, they can run across very long distances. They also don’t get motion sick. They have wilder features with unkempt hair that refuses to obey any direction.

Culture

Farlanders live a nomadic lifestyle, endlessly traversing the plains from atop Adamantoises. They hunt the dangerous wilderness, trade with travellers, and some tribes even raid. Farlanders are above all else, survivors. Their simple life revolves around perfecting the skills required to survive every day life in the Auran wilderness. They are disciplined. In touch with nature, they respect it and give back to nature. They live communal lives, supporting one another in their constant battle to survive. They are always wary of strangers, and must be ready to defend their resources or land at a moment’s notice. They have great respect for the Viera. Farlanders are an insular group who rarely tolerate outsiders.

Nomenclature

Farlanders don’t have family names. Given names are often simple, based purely upon preference and tastes. These names are tribal words by their nature. They don’t originate from society, but instead from nature. Names like; Bleda, Isla, Kyla, Harak, Bluri.

Dress

Farlanders dress in worn furs and hides, even leather, designed for the hot savannah weather. They are well made, suited for combat, survival, and stealth. Earthen colours allow them to blend into the environment while still being functional for combat. They are light, preferring movement and speed. Farlanders will often wear an assortment of pouches or bags for gathering and storing materials, that can later be hung from the Adamantoise. Farlanders tend to craft trinkets from items they have discovered across the plains. These could be treasures, pieces of metal, machina, or monsters.
