Horavius

The powerful lich Horavius.
He was once a talented human magic user who became obsessed with revenge and with his own mortality and found a way to turn himself into a Lich.
He is one of the reasons the cursed forest is now a deadly place where monsters and undead roam free.

Personal history

He was born in Kecklerstead to a mother that didn't want him. His mother passed him off to a wizard called Jarvis when still an infant, this wizard apparently owed her a favour and so took Horavius in without too much complaint.
Jarvis was a strict but fair father figure. Horavius studied under Jarvis and was fascinated with magic. He often stayed up late reading books about magic and studying different schools of magic.
He was quiet talented and Jarvis noticed that even at a young age Horavius showed great potential.
As the years went by Jarvis was struck with a sickness magic in nature. Jarvis hid it from Horavius at first but over time he started noticing.
Jarvis became bedridden and Horavius studied day and night about magic illnesses. Horavius attempted to save Jarvis but with no success. Jarvis eventually passed away during the night.
Horavius buried Jarvis and was now alone in the tower. He barely had any motivation to study anything and was just living off Jarvis's saving. Eventually Horavius opened up a random book and the page he opened revealed what was wrong with Jarvis.
Jarvis was cursed by a demon. Why Jarvis was in contact with a demon mattered not to him, he went through Jarvis's boxes of stuff and found notes about how Jarvis made a deal with a demon called Demilos. This demon cursed Jarvis with a slow death for the secret on how to raise an army of the dead. Horavius was confused as to why Jarvis needed such knowledge but continued digging.
There were no further notes on this demon but Horavius was seething with hatred for this demon, it cursed his only friend and father figure to a slow death. His loneliness turned into hate and obsession.
Horavius wanted revenge, he did not care how. He knew luring a demon to him or finding a way to it would require powerful spells and a lot of magic energy, he couldn't simply summon it under the guise of a deal as breaking the deal process would almost definitely lead to his own death.

He started using his knowledge and the secrets Jarvis gained to gain more and more power. This started affecting the land around him as he noticed the magic aura turning dark, dead animals started rising and walking around. Horavius however did not care as this was the only way he knew on how to gather magic energy which he started storing. Horavius was getting older and older but the answer to his revenge was still so far away.
The only answer was to gain immortality... Horavius managed to gain the knowledge and power to turn himself into a Lich.

This unholy magic was a success, Horavius was but a mere skeleton now but he now had all the time he needed to study.

He gained more and more spells and power, the forest he was in now nothing but a haunted deathtrap full of undead. Of course adventurers started showing up to end what was going on in this forest but he could not let them get in his way, with the power he gained they were easily dispatched.

Horavius continued to study to find a way to get into the underworld to find this demon, utterly obsessed with getting his revenge.

In July of 1004, he finished gathering large amounts of magic power in large magic orbs inside his forest. By changing a magic scroll of teleportation he managed to create a permanent portal into the underworld and wandered through to see what the underworld is like and how he could try to find Demilos.
Shortly after returning from the underworld he worked on a tracking spell.
After being delayed for a few months after dealing with some adventurers that attacked his forest and destroyed an orb of magic energy, he got back to working on this tracking spell.
Having no real components from Demilos's body or clothes, he had to use a spell that worked by use of the creatures name. Luckily for Horavius, he knew his name.
After months of failure, he eventually managed to get the spell to work. The spell tracked.. something, when used in the underworld. Having no other option he decided to use this spell.
In early 1005, using his powers and his masters knowledge that was recorded in the various books in his tower, he decided to now set forth into the underworld and get his revenge.
Many potions, scrolls and his spellbook were prepared to assist him with this arduous task. Only time will tell how he will fare.
