Kazad Ril
Kazad Ril roughly translates to "The golden fortress"
It is a dwarven myth that talks about an ancient mountain home, the halls of which are made of solid gold and that contains a hoard of adamantine.
Summary
It is said Kazad Ril has halls made of gold and a large hoard of adamantine and is supposed to lie somewhere in the cold regions of the human barony of Calaia.
The stories say that one day, the mountain itself went against Kazad Ril and swallowed it whole leaving nothing but a small secret escape passage of the mountain home as the only way in or out.
Historical Basis
The dwarves currently all have their mountain homes in the north of the main continent. However there is evidence of dwarven activity in Calaia from a time long gone by in the form of some chiselled rock walls on the mountains and fragments of some dwarven stone statues.
Although not known by any dwarves alive, this myth could be talking about Kazad Gnol.
Spread
This myth is common knowledge amongst the dwarves and often told as a story by parents to their children.
Cultural Reception
In Literature
There are a few old books about Kazad Ril written by dwarven adventurers that went in search of it but they all end the same, after following the clues they all end up lost in the wilderness of Calaia with no sign of Kazad Ril anywhere.
In Art
There are some tapestries and paintings of dwarven artists interpretations of how Kazad Ril looked in its prime.
