Qualifications
Training is provided in the form of an apprenticeship. They are assigned a master who teaches them all the important skills to safely and skilfully perform the job.
Payment & Reimbursement
Payment ranges from 5 silver to 25 gold a day, depending on skill, race and location.
Perception
Purpose
The backbone of dwarven economy. The other races see it like any other material generating profession.
Social Status
Dwarves see miners as an important part of any dwarven fortress. Humans and Halflings see it as a necessary but dirty job. The elves look down upon miners, why would any self respecting elf crawl underneath the rock when the other races can dig it up for you?

Almost every race can agree that a pickaxe, shovel, spade, hammer and chisel are needed for this job.
Materials
Torches or candles are required for this job.
Dangers & Hazards
Water, magma, falling rock, dangerous gas, collapse of the mineshaft, deadly animals/monster and diseases are some dangers miners have to face on occasion.
