Vampirism
Vampirism also known as the vampire sickness. It is a disease that quickly turns a sentient creature into a vampire once infected.
Transmission & Vectors
Vampirism can be caused either via a divine curse, magic or through drinking the blood of an infected creature. It has also been reported to be caused by infected blood getting into an open wound.
It often becomes contagious within 2 days of a creature being infected.
Causes
The disease quickly takes hold once the virus detects it is in an uninfected host. Through a break in the skin or entering through the digestive tract it quickly enters the blood stream and immediately starts infecting cells.
Symptoms
Within a day or two, an infected creatures skin looses colour often turning a pale white.
After about 2-4 days the infected creature becomes sensitive to sunlight, the skin often taking on severe burns when exposed to sunlight.
A week after becoming infected, a creature grows fangs that are about two times larger than regular; one also starts feeling a strong thirst for the blood of living creatures that grows stronger every day.
Finally, about a month after initial infection the infected creature will grow weaker and be in severe pain until it has fed on the blood of an uninfected living being. Death is often the outcome when an infected creature does not feed on blood.
Treatment
There is no known cure or treatment.
There are rumours that the wood of the rare white spruce has a powerful poison like effect on anyone affected by vampirism.
