Varinor-Kenui
Varinor-Kenui
Varinor-Kenui is elven and roughly translated means "An endless war with fire".
This being is a sort of fire spirit created long before bronze was discovered.
Originally created by several higher demons to turn the world to ashes. It caused terrible devastation to Minahcharoi and the elves living there.
It burned the forests to the ground, only through a risky and powerful spell used by the strongest arch-mages of the elves was the spirit separated from its source of power, which manifests as a red and jagged dagger when not used by Varinor-Kenui. Once separated and the spirit's power and size decreased dramatically, it was possible for the elves to defeat it. They were unable to kill it fully, however they sealed the fire spirit away in a stone sarcophagus covered in powerful magic runes to keep it sealed away.
Most importantly, they took its dagger of power and sealed it away in a separate container, a wooden box covered in similar runes. The dagger possessed a strange charm, those that were able to see it felt a strong urge to wield the blade. It gave the wielder power that grows every day they are holding the dagger, this caused some of the arch-mages that defeated Varinor-Kenui to kill each other over it before it was finally able to be sealed into the mentioned box.
According to old legends, the box was lowered into a deep chasm in the cave layers under todays Karak Lok. The sarcophagus was dumped into the ocean east of Annotii's shore. A long time after these events, a group of Swartalfs discovered the box and took it back to their city in the second cave layer under Karak Lok. They were able to read the magic runes, being able to tell that this box is better kept closed.
So after the centuries of being kept hidden away, some of the swartalfs were affected more and more from generation to generation. They ended up feeling compelled to march out to an underground river that was fed by the ocean above, weeks away to the east from their city.
The swartalfs ended up finding the stone sarcophagus and brought it back home. After an incident where someone opened the box containing the dagger, trying to bring it to the stone sarcophagus, they sealed both away in a hidden chamber in the largest mansion in the city. The door was sealed with a protective magic that prevented the influence of the dagger and the being in the sarcophagus to taint the city.
Only the highest ranking members of the city, with appropriate protective wards, were allowed to enter the chamber containing the sarcophagus and the box. After many more centuries, the city fell after being attacked by an army of dverga. Eventually on the 18th of August in 1005, the ruins were found by some dwarves from Karak Lok, of the Dum Doki.
Some of the criminals looting the remains of the city, found the chamber through mere luck. Those members were called Lepoldi (who was the only elf of the group), Feb, Cairn, Grilag, Skai and Zustash. They were affected by the influence of the dagger and the spirit. They ended up fighting among themselves before opening both the box and the sarcophagus, Lepoldi gave the dagger to Varinor-Kenui.
They all managed to escape badly injured, however Varinor-Kenui has now been released. On the 28th of Mai in 1005, it arrived at and began destroying Minahcharoi. On the 4th of June in 1005, it reached the city of Ima and burned it to the ground without mercy. It then moved on to the city of Erela Methila several days later, the protective wards and the mages living there only slowed it down briefly before it turned that city into ashes too. In the night of the 12th of June in 1005, it arrived at the town of Verdan-Pili. Varinor-Kenui burned the town to the ground in a matter of hours before continuing to produce fire elementals and burning down the surrounding forest. Varinor-Kenui was burning down large swathes of forest for weeks before getting close to Harvoiendri.
Annotii's best arch-mages stopped it from getting close enough to damage the city, however Varinor-Kenui proved too powerful to destroy. The arch-mages kept it contained for weeks before the one of the original arch-mages calledĀ Guinglanid, that contained the fire demon those thousands of years ago appeared from out of exile with his grand-nephew Alachanar. They found and learned a powerful spell that can destroy the fire demon for good, this achievement was only made thanks to the dwarven adventurers Fig, Skai, Grilag and Rue who secretly housed them in Fig's clan house in Kazad Kol while they studied the ancient texts together with King Aderthion Morfess who at the time was being kept as a prisoner there. Varinor-Kenui, through great effort was finally able to be destroyed for good on the 7th of August of 1005. Though its source of power remained; it turned into a jagged dagger made of a red metal, this dagger gained its corruptive aura that it did when Varinor-Kenui was once banished. This dagger was quickly wrapped in a magic cloth with protective runes and taken into an ancient and abandoned crypt so that none maybe be seduced by its promise of power or affected by its corruptive aura.
