Everfjord

History

The city of Everfjord, located on the east bank of the Azure Coast.   A settlement established by the Sentinel Order , a faction of former adventurers in the Year 380. They decided to settle around the mysterious tree where most of them appeared from several decades prior. Since then, Everfjord grew exponentially, welcoming new arrivals summoned by the Tree of New Life during the Trium Fluctus (Third Wave of Wanderers), as well as those who sought a new home away from war, tyranny or famine. This latter also included outlaws of other countries, seeking a new chance here, for better or for worse of everyone.   Twenty years after its founding, Everfjord joined the Azure Federation, and quickly became one of its most active members, despite its relative weakness. Volunteers and mercenaries from this land aided the gnomes of Millheim against forces from below, the dwarves of Balimor against their crazed brethren, the oppressed halfling populace of Onyxbridge to revolt against the barons and ending the civil war in the human kingdom of Leonia, with a Wanderer called Athena crowned as queen. Beyond the alliance's borders, Everdjord supported the orcs of Duronia to settle the dispute of two war chiefs with the least amount of bloodshed, all within the yea of 400.   During this time, the newly formed democratic council invited the rabbitfolk of Palmpaw, a kingdom destroyed by centaur barbarians, offering them sanctuary. In the Battle for the Border, Everfjord held of the pursuing marauders, and helped the harengon establish a new home at the Eastern Farmlands. They also allowed the drow to settle within their borders after they lost their home to the same creatures that invaded Millheim, the dark elves setting up their town within the jungle, know as D'blina Pr'sana. Finally, a great deal of immigrants arrived from Leonia and Sylviria, who they settled to the north, founding Yellowgrad, a fortress city. With Everfjord in charge, the republic truly stepped over the boundries of a city state.   During the reign of Augustus Crowley and the establishment of the extremist Free Empire of Odyssea, Everfjord was invaded by overwhelming force. Three out of four settlements were put under siege, Yellowgrad pushing back the invading elves and humans, but D'blina suffering encirclement for almost a month. Everfjord was brutally assaulted in the final days of the war, but the republic prevailed, and with the aid of foreign reinforcements arriving - from almost all regions they aided beforehand - the Free Empire suffered a humaliating defeat and was forced to retreat.   But the city still lied in ruins, with thousands dead, including civilians. What followed was months of unease as regular civilians protested in the streets. The Free Empire's public goals were to hunt and imprison all adventurers, deeming them a threat to society. Everfjord was the greatest hub of adventurers, and over time the people started questioning if maybe the invaders had a point, considering the amounts of damage their misbehaviour caused over time. This led to several unfortunate events that ended in either fighting or death. Finally, the council yielded, and a Union Hall was established to provide support and leverage for civilians should adventurers endanger their lives.   Almost half a year afterwards, there is still unrest within Everfjord, however the state stands firmly, and grows in power and influence day by day.

The settlement is centered around the Tree of New Life, an ever-blooming oak tree of unknown origin. Right aroundt that is the main square, where most civilians pass by daily, to work or to hang out. To the main square opens the Sentinel Headquarters, a fortified building of the elite order. It is where the newly arrived Wanderers and settlers are registered, it is also where the teleportation circle connecting to Leonia is located. At the same square to the east is the Bard's Tongue Tavern, the largest of its kind around and the general hub for locals, the city library, the Union Hall to the northeast, and the Great Temple to the southeast. The latter is established to offer the chance to worship all dieties of the pantheon, as well as aid the hospital square it is also part of, known by locals simply as "Clinics" with healing magic. Connected to the temple is the orphanage and the retirement home, while the hospital also has an insane asylum. To the west from here is the Amphitheatre of Glory, a great arena where champions and wanderers test their mettle daily. South of that is the university, and west from there is the semi-hidden Postas Headquarters and the "hundred-mile deep mine", Joe's Abyss. North from the town square is the Market Road, where most shops are located. To the west of that is the docks, to the east can you find the council mansion.
In the middle of town, there is also a small zoo located, called Sun's Tzoo   The city is defended by three lines of walls. An outer line that protects from all sides, except the docks, an inner one, that seperates the old town from the freshly build sections, and the council mansion's fort square, seperating the office buildings from the rest of Everfjord. Beyond the walls are several farms, mostly growing grain, to the south is the graveyard.   North of the city lies Yellowgrad, to its southeast the jungles and within that, D'blina Pr'sana, and to the east is the Eastern Farmlands.

Environment

Everfjord lies on the western ends of the central aurelian plains, at the seashore of Odyssea. The climate in this region is temperate, the forests are sparse, but dense. To the south lies the great temperate jungle.

Population

Everfjord's population is dense and colorful, showing off all races known to man, even those not naturally native to this world, such as construct humanoids, having arrived along with the Wanderer Waves. Highest population are elves, followed by humans and orcs. Wanderer waves are said to arrive each century, with the third, the "Trium Fluctus" being the last one.

  • The Trium Fluctus officiall ended, but strangely enough the Wanderers keep arriving. Reports claim the tree has a great crack in the middle of it
  • The tavern of Everfjord was blown up three several times under a year. Nobody knows why it wasn't declared cursed yet
