Castite and Cryocrystals: The Building Blocks of Interstellar Travel

Let me first say that I am a proud Yurtanian. I believe that our race serves the galaxy in a vital way. Communication is key to all advancement in our society. But the core reason that Drid have been able to dominate the corner of the universe we are aware of, is primarily their aptitude and success in technology. Our advances in linguistics are great, but the Drid took our ability and created a way that all species can communicate with each other. Beyond that, our abilities just would not have been enough to save our planet. The Drid’s superior space travel technology has advanced the life of every species in the Aurelius system. There are a number of specific tech that make space travel possible, but the Drid discovered the use of two resources in particular that make long and extended space travel possible. Castite is the power source used to cut across the galaxy chasing after the speed of light. Cryocrystals are what keep beings safe and secure while traveling at such high speeds. Let’s start with Castite.

Castite

Castite is a particular mineral found on some planets in the Aurelius System. It has qualities that has astounds scientists of the highest stature. It has been called many names since it’s discovery; starlink-our link to the stars, miracle fuel, etc. The rock is almost translucent with a reddish glow that reflects the power it holds. When it is burned, the active elements of the mineral create a source of power that burns longer than any other propellant in the universe. Drid tech unlocked a way to slow its burn, prolonging its life as a power source for extended use in the largest starships. It is a particular powerful propellant in its solid form. The miracle of the mineral is compounded through the ability to mix the mineral with the proper agent and melt it for use in liquid form. In this form, it is used as a fuel for small starships across the territory. The durability of Castite in both solid and liquid forms is incredible. One chunk of Castite can allow a starship to travel light years away. In liquid form, small ships can travel around the entire Aurelius territory on a full tank.

Cryocrystals

Traveling at the highspeeds capable using Castite as a propellant can be particularly dangerous for any living species in extended periods of time. Bodies at the highest speeds can cause heavy enough stress on individuals that organs can simply give out. The tough exteriors of the Drid serve has a stronger protection for this than most other species, but even Drid can suffer internal damage if traveling at high speed for too long. For this reason, tech companies sought to protect bodies during long periods of space travel. Many things have been tried over the millenias, including freezing bodies under stasis for trips to another galaxy. The discovery of cryocrystals marked a watershed moment in the history of the Aurelius Territory. It’s uses are many, and still being discovered, but it’s biggest mark on society is it’s ability to protect and slow body processes during high speed long term ultra-distance space travel. The gems are small but are the highest value substance in the universe. Stumbling upon a deep cavern of the gem can make the discoverer rich for the greater part of their life…that includes the life span of Drid…if properly invested.
