Astral Marks

Its origins have long been theorized and have found itself featured through the many different pantheons of faith and study alike. Dragons the powerful species that shape and mold the world have been long thought to have come from the stars. These powerful entities are told to never really die in the traditional sense, only to grow and to keep gaining in power of knowledge.
These dragons tapped into the power of the stars, the ether that gleams and shines all around Auriga and the surrounding worlds. And in the process created Astral Marks, called Yongpyo in the language of Draconic. These marks embed themselves into a creatures body giving them a way to tap into the unseen energies that exist in the world coming from the intense energy from the stars. The Marks differ and manifest themselves in differing ways depending on the way the Mark was given to the individual.
How the Astral Mark triggers the dormant bio-energies in the air and release a powerful torrent of ether is done by copying and toying with the founding principles of Aeon Mathematics.  How these marks manifest can be passed on by parents on rare cases. Or some say the planet Auriga chooses which of its children can tap into the Ether. Others are given marks by powerful individuals or beings.
But one thing is common with these marks, they are rare and are not seen and often feared by common folk. Among the Great Houses bestowing marks is a sign of high honor and respect and it demands respect.
Each mark has an innate source that doesn't expend any effort of the user. These are often considered as level 0 or cantrip powers. If one who is marked starts to devote more and more into that mark it can extend into levels or branches, the further it branches out the less possible it is to diverge into another competing mark.
When the energy of one "branching slot" of the mark is spent it leaves a temporary burden of exhaustion on the user that can only be restored through physical rest and recovery.
For most people, Marks require a focus to unleash its energy. Ancient relics of lost civilizations often used devices to channel the energy of the Astral Mark to be used in a more efficient ways, sometimes requires a passcode of a dead language of the Aeons to trigger, or intricate hand motions. Sometimes the burning of very specific recipes of ingredients can be used to release the Ether needed to execute these powers.
Though creation of the different schools of power that come from the marks is a long debated and discussed topic in universities. While the invention of new manifestations of new power is theorized as possible. What was used by the long lost civilizations of Auriga's past have been the only remaining known "spells" to exist.
