Episode 36: Beast Untamed

General Summary

Last we left our heroes they had finished licking their wounds, restocking supplies and building relationships with the grateful family of Underfoot. The seven surviving members will work on rebuilding the town, due to the generosity of some of our heroes they have the gold needed to hire and purchase what they need to build the town again. Jareg, the lizardfolk warrior who was saved by our heroes when they first began their travels together. Saving him from Sahuagin capture. Is still alive, owing much of his survival to the Moon Touched Spear that William gave him. He said while he was on the hunt against the Sahuagin he was pulled into a strange rift in the Moonlit waters. Entering a magnificent realm, Shivering Isles, mania and dementia before him. He fought and survived and when he left the rift, unaware of the time that had lapsed, found himself in a dense forest where he fought off attacking orcs. Seeing our heroes alive was an answer he was searching for. He has pledged his spear to the party. Working with Valcore and having the hope of him finding his Oath again. Tailiya, has been dealing with the beast inside of her. Perhaps hoping that she will just "get it" and be able to control this powerful beast. But she realized the flaw in that notion. Under oppresive moonlight, the beast couldn't take it anymore and forced a transformation. The party tried to calm her down, they succeeded into convincing the beast to go into the woods to hunt. To William's surprise, the beast retains the agility and speed of her monk training, a terrifying thought. The beast caught smell of a young couple about to profess their love for one another. She dove in for the kill. Waking up naked and covered in the remains of the grisly scene, no memory of the actual occurrence. Devastated at the truth, Tailiya went searching for the remains to bury them and give the fallen couple a semblance of closure. She had discovered one of the remains had been devoured whole by an Owlbear. Tailiya in her sense of justice pressed forward to the hunt. Easily overpowering the large creature. But in her heart she felt sympathy for the beast. William, watching on did not allow the injured beast to be brutalized by another predator decided to put the creature out of it's misery. William chastised his friend for thinking too much like an Elf. While never having to struggle with the beast like she did, this was a new experience for him. But his best advice was, the more her ideals and personality aligned with the beast, the more control she would have over it. Tailiya, ripped the owlbear apart with her hands, digging deep to recover the remains so that she could give them a proper burial. Her nobility slowly transforming more and more, into the only law that applies to the wild. The rules of nature. On the road ahead our heroes came across an unnatural sight. A swamp, they have encountered swamps before, but this was something different, it was growing, expanding. Fog that hang above the very trees. A disorientating and punishing maze. The road ahead was no longer visible, overtaken by this swamp that seem to hang onto the very mountain sides. Exhausted and lost our heroes realized that there are other dangers in these swamps. As shambling mounds of tree, vine and moss come to life and advance to our heroes. Whatever created this swamp is a cruel and uncaring being. And that they are trespassing in a place that does not welcome them.
