Kalashtar: Planetouched by Dreams
I am kalashtar, born of two worlds. Over a thousand years ago, my ancestor bound her bloodline to the quori warrior Radiant, and I am a child of that union. Radiant moves within me. Her memories come to me in dreams, and at times her voice whispers in the silence of my mind. As long as at least one of my sisters is alive, Radiant will survive—and as long as she lives, she will fight il-Jenzi. —Jenzi, servant of the lightHistory The Kalashtar did not arrive to Auriga the same time as the humans. Rather they came later already changed. They're ancestors arrived to Auriga having joined forces, quite literally with a psychic symbiote alien species known as the Quori. The Quori are renegade creatures that come from a place called Dreamspace a deep pocket within the Astral Sea, where all dreams go as the legend goes. The Quori escaped the oppression of evil they called the Dreaming Dark. When the kalashtar arrived to Auriga they were quite foreign even to other humans. touched by the very planes of the Far Realms of space; the kalashtar have found themselves in the more secluded sectors of Auriga. Residing in small mountain enclaves around Galapyre. Personality Kalashtar are commonly reserved, tranquil and tend to spend significant time thinking something through before acting. They're kind and caring towards others though, in an intellectual manner rather than emotional. It is not known exactly why kalashtar take a keen interest in controlling their emotions however, it is commonly believed that it is due to the turmoil they suffer from their conjoined mind. They express their friendship with a wry smile and through offhand comments rather than being cordial or making lewd jokes. The fragments of the quori mind subsumed within the kalashtar keenly remember their escape from Dreamspace, and long to return someday. Kalashtar fleeing and hiding from the Dreaming Dark are cautious of others, though they remain invariably polite, kind, and even compassionate. Kalashtar are unable to merge their human half's sensitivity with the strange and wild visions and memories of their quori minds. Beneath their serene makeup, kalashtar are at conflict within themselves, struggling to fend off insanity. At times they begin to lose that struggle, displaying confusing and sometimes dangerous behavior. Dealing with The Dreaming Dark is the most important goal for kalashtar characters, as most see them as the ultimate evil in existence. Being the combination of humans who willingly fused with quori aliens, kalashtar look much like humans, having the same ranges of eye, hair and skin colors. Kalashtar are commonly tall and slim, though kalashtar of all sizes exist. The only real difference in kalashtar is their monastic behaviour. Kalashtar children show the largest difference between them and their human counterparts but still, only in behaviour. Whilst human children will run, play, laugh and show an emotional immaturity, kalashtar children will take part in meditative practices, martial training and telepathic conversations like their adult seniors. Growing up for the kalashtar is simply a physical process rather than an emotional or mental one. Bound to Aliens. Every kalashtar has a connection to a symbiote of light, shared by other members of their bloodline. Kalashtar appear human, but the spiritual connection affects them in a variety of ways. Kalashtar have symmetrical, slightly angular features. The eyes of a kalashtar often glow when it is focused on a task or feeling strong emotions. The idea of family is an interesting question to a Kalashtar. A mother can give birth to twins and the children might connect with the father's Quori or the mother's or maybe none of the above and a distant ancestor quori will claim the child as a protector. The kalashtar can’t directly communicate with their quori spirits. A kalashtar might experience this relationship as a sense of instinct and inspiration, drawing on the memories of the spirit when they dream. This connection grants kalashtar minor psionic abilities, as well as protection from psychic attacks. All of these dream-spirits are virtuous, but some are warriors and others are more contemplative. Work together with the DM to determine the nature of the linked spirit. Typically, a kalashtar knows the name and nature of their spirit, but for some—for instance, an orphan kalashtar raised among outsiders—may know nothing of their spirit or the source of their psychic gifts. The bond to the spirit can cause some kalashtar to display unusual quirks of behavior. You can roll or select a trait from the following table. Kalashtar Quirks
