Session 16: Found & Lost Report
General Summary
Our heroes, strangers, some running from past events, some trying to return to their past. No matter the connetion they have found themselves as heroes of Dugang, members of the Hunter's caste of society, respected for their undoing of an illegal smuggling operation, forming a potential alliance with the aquatic races to prevent a future war. And even the saving of a noblewoman and doctor and catching a murderer and preventing a political upheavel as a result.
Yes our heroes did deserve some needed time for themselves, and they did, they went on some personal hunts to hone their skills, built up their relationships, trained their crew and prepared themselves for whatever lay ahead. But one of their own did not make it home. William Ivan Dreamurr was kidnapped by a mysterious and cruel man known as Lorenzo, using authority of the Silverflame to capture and take William, as well as many unknown victims being chained, obscured and locked down in horse drawn carriages.
The carriages were enroute to be delivered to Lorenzo's ship the Acheron. Our heroes caught sight of this. What would they do? They were far away, but it was possible to reach them if they hurried. Through bloodrushing excitement and zeal to protect one of their own they confronted Lorenzo and his band, each capable men of renown themselves.
Our heroes have faced criminals, monsters. But never something so similar to themselves, they never faced a team. When given the chance to turn around, live to fight another day. Let William go on to the Acheron. They couldn't see that as an option. Lorenzo saw trading William as not an option at all, he needed something from him he needed William to get it.
Through daring acts of bravery, courage despite challenge our heroes clashed with these villains. Tailiya desperately searching through the carriages hoping to find her friend, only to find the horrifying sight of a dozen or more victims, stripped and covered in cages. If only she had enough time she could find him!
Konna initiating the charge, firing arrows from hundreds of feet away, moving with all his zeal to confront these individuals. Trying to look for a way to obstruct their operation and get everyone out safe and sound.
Lambert, heroically meeting the opposition face to face, not the first to draw steel, hoping that a more peaceful solution could be discovered, found that from the actions of those around him he would stand the line and fight!
Valcore perhaps the most fueled with righteous indignation against these ones. His devotion deep down in his very Paladin Oath fueling his roots. He could. Maybe remembering his tenant Compassion. Aid others, protect the weak, and punish those who threaten them. Show mercy to your foes, but temper it with wisdom. William and those on the carriage were weak and needed to be saved, these men deserved a just punishment. And he also could have thought of Duty. Be responsible for your actions and their consequences, protect those entrusted to your care, and obey those who have just authority over you.
He was entrusted this party, he was given the trust to be a captain over them, to lead them. If he didn't defend William, well what else would be left for him?
Valcore drawing on all of his tempered power charged the enemy and valiantly bested one of Lorenzo's strongest allies a powerful Minotaur named Boska. Lorenzo was no amused, he has extended what he considers mercy, that if they stopped he would forget them. But now they have fought to interrupt him, and now taken a life of one his own. He extends his second "mercy" a life for a life.
Unfortunately this day it was a life for a life. Valcore caught in a bad position was knocked down to the beach side. Lorenzo walked over to him, Tailiya holding Valcore's head, Lambert offering his own life instead selflessly and heroically. But it was too late, Lorenzo as judge jury and execution placed his glaive in to Valcore's heart. And Valcore lay dead with the party receiving the warning.
"Tell everyone what happened today, that no one messes with us, no one messes with the Silverflame." As the carriage loads on the Acheron as a ship large crew watching from the distance prepares the ship to sail. Our party is laying in defeat and reeling from loss. But is it over for them? Has their light been extinguished? Or did it reignite to even greater limits? They now have an enemy, a face and a name to hate. And they still have a friend they need to save, perhaps two that can be saved. And vengeance that must be dealt!
