Genesis

Genesis is a special type of Unotem that comes once every 16 milos, in which the newest Itera of 26 Variants is born. These new Variants come from artificial wombs maintained by the supercomputer Simone. The births mark a transition into adulthood for the previous Itera, as they join the rest of their family in becoming stewards of the new Kinderwuhn and working members of the community. It also represents a transition for the families themselves as each member goes up one family rank.

History

The 1st Itera Variants were the first to experience a true Genesis, as the 2nd Itera was born just a day after they awoke from the virtual city of Origin into their physical bodies. When it became clear that each Itera of new Variants would be born on the same day and at the same time evey 16 milos, traditions and rituals began to spring up around the event. From the beginning, Genesis has symbolized gaining the ability to take on new and important responsibilities, and doing your part in cultivating the future.

Execution

The event is commemmorated by a ceremony in which the Kinderwuhns are born and accepted into their new families. Each Genesis ceremony proceeds as follows:

1. The Variants wake up before dawn and get dressed in their traditional Genesis clothes.
2. Each family has their own morning gathering within their homes.
3. The Variants leave their homes and begin the procession towards the place where the artificial wombs are located.
4. The highest-ranking High Councillor gives a short speech.
5. The current youngest Itera is brought to the front and swears an oath before the House to take responsibility for their new siblings and serve the community to the best of their ability.
6. The Medics take their stations and prepare for the release of the baby Variants from their artificial wombs.
7. At dawn, the newest Itera is born. The newborn Variants are each assigned to a family based on the letter of the artificial womb they were grown in.
8. Each newborn is given to their respective older sibling to hold for the first time. The older sibling then presents the newborn to the rest of their family and introduces themselves and the baby with their new family ranks. This moment officially marks the older sibling's status as an adult and the baby's status as their family's Kinderwuhn.

Participants

Everyone in Citadel attends the Genesis ceremony. The key participants are the House, the Medics and, of course, the soon-to-be-adults of the current youngest Itera.
