Azure Valley

History

The Legend of the Azure Valley In the frozen wasteland of the Azure Valley, where snow-covered mountains loom and fierce storms rage, there were two Demigods, given a task by Klothys.   The Twilight Goddess was tasked with watching over the night, her anchor the lunar crystal within a city that resided within the stars. She kept a watchful eye over the Frost Blessed, a people devoted to the cold, with blue skin and weapons of mercury.   The other, The Dawn Bearer, was tasked with watching over the day, the embodiment of the bounty of the sun god. His anchor was the earth, and he watched over the Sunbound people with skin as dark as coal and hair as bright as the sun. Together, they lived in the Shrine of Souls, a place of powerful magic, where the souls of the departed rested.   As time passed, The Dawn Bearer grew envious of The Twilight Goddess, believing that she was favored by the Tehiri Gods. It was then that something far older and more intelligent than he approached him - "The Whisperer."   The Whisperer convinced The Dawn Bearer that the only way he could become favored was to take over both the night and the day. The Twilight Goddess was one with the stars, looking down on him with disdain, and so he was told that by taking over both, he could capture the attention of the greater gods.   So The Dawn Bearer began to corrupt the very people that The Twilight Goddess watched over, the Frost Blessed. He gave them a taste of his power, drawing her out of her forests to defend her charges. But the Sunbound, the people The Dawn Bearer watched over, saw their god going astray and denounced him, joining up the fight on the side of the Twilight Goddess.   Once The Twilight Goddess emerged, the two clashed in a fierce battle, using the last of their abilities to banish each other. The Twilight Goddess was banished to the forests, and The Dawn Bearer to a dark, unknown hole, presumably with the Whisperer.   The Frost Blessed fled to the cursed southern mountains, while the Sunbound began to populate the Azure Valley and rebuild, eventually deeming it necessary to isolate themselves in the strange fogs on the north-western part of the continent. However, the two groups intermarried with several cultures and people, giving rise to the nomads - The Rentier, The Khangai, The Drache, and The Zeme. Now, the Sunbound and the Frost Blessed both seek to get to the Shrine of Souls, for whoever can get there first will bring back their respective god.

Tourism

Primarily, tourism is generated by those wishing to strike out for their fortune in a vastly unexplored region. Long lost technologies could be lurking in the ruins or gemstones of great value. One never knows what they might find while exploring the frozen wastes.   Oddly enough, Frozen “Safaris” have become a lucrative venture for those willing to guide those with more money than sense suffering from a midlife crisis and who wish to face large game such as owlbears or even Frost-Blessed in the wild.
