The Golden Beach
The Golden Beach was a sandy bay at the foot of the Fence, that connected the continent of Grenn to the lands of the Vintaq. The narrow beach was where wandering clans and merchants passed from one great land to the other, allowing for minor trade and migration on foot and on horseback.
History
The Golden Beach was a sandy bay that was created as part of world during First Light, but was destroyed during The Great Quake in the Age of Awakening. Some people believe that this is how Alum Tai the Stranger, found himself in Vintaq Doone, though the Golden Beach had been destroyed for centuries before he was first known.
Before its destruction, The Golden Beach was often used as a passage for the peoples of Auros to travel from the greenlands, now known as Grenn, to the light lands (aka Vintaq Doone). During fair seasons, merchants, usually from Vintaq Doone, set up market stalls along the foot of the Fence and sold food and various goods to the travelers who crossed the beach. In the cold months, the sands became icy and slippery, and the few who dared to travel across would attach planks of wood to their boots and used staffs with sharpened ends to keep their footing.
Because this was a mainly peaceful time in Auros, fighting (with weapons) was rare, however there were occasional boxing matches arranged by less honorable types behind a small rock formation at the beach's end nearer to Grenn. It was here that gambling and wagers were first introduced into the world. An unscrupulous but enterprising man built an inn with a tavern at this site, which he playfully named The Chancellor.
In 637 AW, the Great Quake wrought destruction all over Auros. The Chancellor was crushed by a large boulder, and the waves rose high over the beach. By the time the quake had stopped, The Golden Beach was no more.
