Ssektosh, The Night Serpent

Ssektosh, known both as "the Sun Serpent" and "the Night Serpent", is a god of dual aspects, simultaneously existing as a god of daylight and healing, as well as a god of darkness and undeath.   Legend has it that the material plane was born when Ssektosh himself used his divine body to form the sun, beginning the cycle of time. He gave his gift of divinity to his Aelf followers, who became the serpentine Yuan-Ti. Yet instead of gratitude, the Yuan-Ti craved Ssektosh's power for themselves, and enacted a ritual that sacrificed his divinity for their own ends. Thus, the Ssektosh of old was miraculously slain, yet through the numinous nature of gods, remains whole as well, going through each day living, dying, and being reborn again in a never ending cycle. Due to this treachery, the twin worshipers of each aspect exist in a perpetual state of holy war against one another.   As his daylight aspect, Ssektosh is the patron god of Coatls and Lizardfolk, as well as doctors and care-givers. Worshipers of this aspect, often refereed to as Sun Souls, are know for their generosity towards those in need. They historically have been studious collectors of knowledge, as well as stalwart warriors against evil when necessary.   In contrast, Ssektosh's night aspect is said to favor his wayward children, the Yuan-Ti, as well as necromancers and assassins. These serpent cults form covert organizations throughout the world in an attempt to destabilize society as an offering to their demented god. Perhaps most insidiously, these cults are known to often imitate their benevolent counterparts, posing as sun worshiping care-givers to earn the trust of their victims, as well as to discredit their Sun Soul rivals once their deception becomes known.   Ssektosh is worshiped as a primary deity in both the Draconic Pantheon and the Sons of the Titan. He is also considered an evil god by worshipers of the Great Wheel of Aethra.
