The Eclipse Front
The New Dawn Front is a vigilante group operating in the shadows within multiple human states of the world, notably the Kingdom of Edea. They criticise the choices that the Astrium has taking over the past few decades, such as the drawing back of defence from vulnerable border settlements, and the hesitation to defend allies and peoples against aggressive forces or dangers. In response, they take a direct action approach rather than lobbying political bodies, training citizens and adventurers to take up arms against these threats themselves, providing units of mercenaries across the country and abroad to protect merchants, villages and communities.
The majority of the members of the organisation are religious, acting as paladins and clerics, though many members are basic mercenaries and bounty hunters, looking to collect coin while ensuring justice is served. The primary deity of the group is Selune, though various Ysgardian deities are worshipped amongst the organisation for their own personal reasons. The chaotic good doctrine of justice and vengeance under the watchful eyes of the Gates of the Moon is central to the tenants of the organisation.
Each individual who joins the organisation declares an Oath to the organisation and the watchful eyes of its deities. The oath has a standardised element, regarding the spreading of justice and the destruction of evil wherever it is found, combined with a personal element, encouraging its members to set themselves a life goal to devote themselves to.
Structure
The organisation has very little hierarchy, with members belonging to local chapters able to move between and among chapters wherever their quests take them. Monks of the Front reside in these chapters however, keeping large archives of knowledge and history which it protects from those who may harm it. These monks directly serve Morrovale, who continues to be the impartial leader of the organisation since its founding.
Culture
The front has a distinct honour-bound culture, with members judged only on their ability to fulfil their target objective: justice. Those found engaging in corruption or needless violence are expelled from the organisation and sentenced to never set foot in a chapter again. Members are selfless in helping others who are in danger, so long as it fulfils the need for justice, and will assist fellow members when a challenge overwhelms a single member.
History
The organisation was formed in 1561 when the Elven Monk Morrovale Sunderwind came across a town under attack by a hoard of trolls from a nearby forest. After his pleads to the Astrium were ignored after their fears of stoking tensions with the forests other creatures, Morrovale took matters into his own hands, training the townspeople and assisting them when the trolls came to attack. Those he trained wished to join him in spreading his teachings, and the first chapter was started.
