Combos in Availia

In Availia, a "Combo" is a collaborative attack strategy that players can initiate during combat. This tactical option allows characters to combine their efforts to unleash powerful attacks against their enemies.

Overview

Starting at level 5, players have the option to initiate or contribute to a Combo during their turn, instead of taking their regular actions. This system encourages teamwork and strategic planning, as players must decide whether to begin a Combo or assist with an ongoing one.

Mechanics

Initiating a Combo

Call for Combo: - A player can choose to start a Combo by declaring "Call for Combo" at the beginning of their turn. Contribute to Combo: - Alternatively, a player can contribute to an already initiated Combo by declaring "Contribute."

Combo Damage Roll

Players contribute to the Combo's damage by rolling dice based on their character level:   Level 5: D8
Level 10: D10
Level 15: D12
Level 20: 2x D20

To Hit Roll

After declaring a Combo, the player rolls a D20 and adds a relevant modifier to determine if their attack hits the enemy's Armor Class (AC).

Example

Matt's Character: Initiates a Combo with "Thunderwave" from his glove. Matt rolls a D20, adds his skill modifier plus proficiency, and rolls damage on a successful hit.
Chris's Character: Chooses to contribute to Matt's Combo with a "Lightning Bolt." Chris rolls for the Lightning Bolt's damage and his "To Hit" with relevant modifiers.

Damage Application

All damage rolls are held until the start of the attacked enemy's turn, at which point the combined damage is applied. Players roll their damage in view of all participants to ensure transparency.

DM Rules and Caveats

Perception Check: The DM may require a Perception check for each enemy between players to determine if they notice and can counter or interrupt the Combo.
Skill Modifier Logic: The DM has the discretion to decide which skill modifiers are applicable. For example, Arcana may not be used for a non-magical physical attack.
Custom Rule: Combos
Sometimes, you have to work together to accomplish goals, or die trying.
