  • Geography

Olera, the central continent of Availia, is a land of diverse landscapes and breathtaking beauty. From the towering peaks of the Taloncrest Peaks in the north to the lush, rolling hills and fertile plains in the south, Olera offers a variety of terrains that are both majestic and treacherous.   The continent is bisected by the River Elowen, which flows from the Taloncrest Peaks down to the capital city of Oleria and on to Emberfod in the southeast and out to the Sunarian Sea, providing vital water routes for trade and travel. East of the river lie the Gravemist moors and the Lingering Swamp creating the north road to Mount Olera along the path. North of that, the road to Glimmerstrand awaits a weary traveler. The far Eaastern side of the continent in the Cape of Storms seperates the central swamp region from the Slyvan Windborn lands beneath Cragspire peaks and the Obsidian Wastes. Here the Elven Capital of Teallaigh sits in Auran Bay. They sit across the bay from Oleria, recognized as a sovereign state after many years of conflict behind the Wild Wind Pass.   The Rivercrest Plains, sprawling across the central region, are known for their expansive farmlands and the hardworking Toufin halfling communities that tend to them in the Briarbrook Hamelt. This area is dedicated to the Kingdom's wealth and bounty, providing for all the inhabitants of the empire and those who assign themselves to its rule.   To the North lies the dense Spider Silk Woods, a mystical forest teeming with ancient trees and hidden portals to the Feywild. Further North the city of Glimmerstrand sits in the valley of the TalonCrest Peaks along the north road to the Dragon Watch Citadel high in the norther mountains. In stark contrast, the southeastern coastline is characterized by rocky cliffs semi sandy beaches, where the city of Emberford thrives as a bustling port town.

    Climate

Olera’s climate is as varied as its geography. The north experiences harsh winters with heavy snowfall in the Ironspire Crests, while the central and southern regions enjoy a temperate climate with mild winters and warm summers. The coastal areas benefit from a maritime climate, with cooler breezes and moderate rainfall year-round. The Lingering Swamp in the southeast, however, is perpetually shrouded in mist and humidity, creating an eerie and foreboding atmosphere.

    Fauna & Flora

Olera boasts a rich biodiversity, from the ancient oaks and enchanted flora of the Spider Silk Woods to the vibrant, fertile lands of the Rivercrest Plains. Unique species such as the Laporanous, a four-eared rabbit, inhabit the marshlands, while the Ironspire Crests are home to hardy mountain goats and elusive snow leopards as well as the Owlkin folk of the Lunarwing Hamlet.   The coastal waters teem with marine life, including schools of glittering fish and majestic sea turtles. The continent’s varied ecosystems support a wide range of creatures, both mundane and magical, making Olera a haven for explorers and naturalists.

    History

Olera’s history is a tapestry of epic battles, grand alliances, and profound mysteries. The continent has been shaped by the rise and fall of empires, the ebb and flow of magical forces, and the enduring spirit of its people.   The Pact of the Five Realms, formed to counter the threats posed during the Temporal Wars, remains a cornerstone of Olerian politics. This alliance, which includes key regions and influential leaders, strives to maintain balance and stability across the continent. The Whispering Quill, a secretive order dedicated to preserving knowledge and preventing conflict, operates from hidden sanctuaries within Olera, subtly guiding the course of history.
