Bancroft Estate
Sullen bare trees and a high stone wall mark the beginning of the grounds occupied by Bancroft's estate. As you drive by, an unkindness of ravens takes flight; when the feathers settle down, you see an old manor house on the hill. The closer you come to the building, the more you’re taken by a strange gut feeling, though you know not why. You see candlelight flicker ominously from inside. As you pull the car up into the courtyard, the grey mansion looms over you with an uneasy foreboding.
Here rests one of the oldest homes in the City, occupied by one of the most influential men in it. Owned by the Bancroft family for generations, this mansion holds an imposing position on the Whitecliff peninsula, overlooking the bay from its perch among several acres of woodland.
Whilst still impressive, what was once a shining example of exquisite stonework has since fallen to the passage of time; its old stonework pockmarked and worn, while twisted vines strangle the exterior.
By comparison, the interior of the mansion's expansive wings, home to dozens of empty rooms and cold, lonely halls, are immaculately kept by a handful of dedicated staff, as if expecting to be used at any moment.
But for now, Edgar Bancroft is the sole occupant of his domain.
