The Narrows

Urban Slum

Located on the southern side of Downtown, this area is named after the narrow, decrepit and destitute streets that make up the district. Police sirens wail day and night, but it’s all for show; the police have long given up on this community. Gunshots are heard regularly from a few blocks over, and sometimes you can catch sight of armed gangs exchanging live fire on the streets as frightened mothers pull their children closer and run for cover. Streets are so clogged with parked cars that alleys are easier to travel. Clotheslines hang across streets and alleyways like banners. Half a dozen TVs talk over each other. Local business are all protected by grilles, locks, and bars, but owners still open the door when gangsters want to come in for fear of later retribution. Many who live here work in the warehouses and factories that run along the edge of the river, to the south of the district. The drug trade is rampant here, with the police doing little to keep things in check as dealers openly sell their goods on the streets.
