Witherthorn Roses are a rare species of rose that mutates when subject to Necromantic magic. Initially originating from the desolate valleys of the Shadowfell, Witherthorn Roses have also been known to multiply naturally, and have spread to some areas of The Forgotten Wealds and the Isle of Ashes. When the thorns of a Witherthorn Rose are touched, they reduce the life force of the victim, being fatal to most commoners. However, the petals of the roses can also be combined with Avënsage leaves to brew a Soulphilter, an elixir that aids the spellcaster in making Necromantic spells more effective, or alternatively can be combined with Marrowclove to brew a Potion of Undeath, a vital ingredient one must attain to descend into Lichdom.

It's not the monsters one has to look out for; it's those damn thorns.
