Rotenkriege
Also known as the Rhynnish-Castian Conflict, Rauða Umsátrið, or simply the Red Wars.
To understand the Red Wars, one must first be informed of the events that predated it. Long ago, when Laranthia was still whole, the spark of revolution shone its light upon the Rhynnish people of Skjöldurvind. A spark that soon gave way to a flame, leaving naught but destruction in its wake. The story begins in the year of 1A-382, as the Kingdom of Vorðae was locked in the middle of a brutal war of succession. Skjöldurvinians were used to violent claims to the throne, but Siegwulf the Lesser was particularly cruel. He resorted to killing his brothers as they slept in an attempt to secure his right to royalty. This backfired, as his late brothers' forces refused to swear fealty to him and instead attempted to retake the capital by force. In defense, Siegwulf wove many a spell using his blood as the catalyst, laying waste to any and all that would oppose him in an event that would later be called the Red-Skies Massacre. Thus did his plans for expansion and conquest come to fruition. The use of Sangromancy has been explicitly forbidden for hundreds of years, as it corrupts its practitioner through continued use. This was especially the case with young Siegwulf, though his abnormal willpower would see his campaign to its bitter end. But from this point forward, if one were to look to the annals of history, each sovereign nation of the continent would spin a different story. Regardless of what caused tensions to truly escalate, one thing is certain: chemical and biological warfare was used to subjugate the peoples of Laranthia. It was so effective, in fact, that mankind's only hope was to evacuate their homes and seek shelter in the underground vault of Holmgate.
