Galembas
Galenbas is a type of cloth synthesized from combining silk and primitive nylon in a process that infuses it with carbon. This creates a substance that is about as resistant to tears and wear as leather while maintaining most (but not all) of its flexibility and softness. It is usually used to create durable luxury garments and tapestries, though it can also be an effective alternative to wool or linen when quilted into gambeson armor (also sometimes referred to as Aketon when worn under plate armor). However, it is difficult to produce with their low technology and is only available to wealthier individuals.
Properties
Physical & Chemical Properties
Galenbas is made out of dark blue threads that when quilted together creates a very fine, thin cloth. It shares many of silk's properties, such as its shimmering appearance and durability compared to other clothing, while limiting the effects of water on it and significantly increasing its resistance to piercing and cutting. It is also a good insulator against electricity and has some antibiotic properties. Silk is a substance that conducts magic extremely well, but the carbon added into the mix has a significant nullifying effect on this conductivity: extremely skilled designers can even take advantage of this to create clothing that boosts the channeling of the wearer's own magic while basically negating spells directed at them. Galenbas fabric is also resistant to most acids, but it reacts poorly to chlorine.
History & Usage
Everyday use
The primary use of this Galembas is in clothing for the wealthy; it has the naturally beautiful lusture of silk and will last for longer (granted, silk can already last for decades longer than other fabrics). Dyes can create stunning dresses or suits even more impressive than the most vibrant natural feathers. It is also useful in the creation of padded fabric armor. When used in this way it can block some sword cuts, arrows, and polearm jabs. It is one of the most effective non-metal armor materials out there. However, it can't be equipped en-masse due to the costs associated with obtaining silk and converting it into useful armor.
