Enchanting

Enchanting is a form of Magic in which an innate object holds the magic. It is the only form of magic that can be permanent, though it usually isn't. This is because an object never gets tired or breaks concentration or stops the spell for any other reason. In order to work enchantments require a constant flow of magic, either from a magic-user or from a magic rich environment, without this, the spell within becomes inactive, until it receives magic once more.   That being said, enchantments are very limited in what they can do. They cannot specify any target other than someone who touches it, additionally, enchantments cannot be adapted once done, meaning a magical item can do one spell only, without adapting it like a magic-user can. For example, nature magic can be used to change the temperature, while an order mage might use it to cool down in a desert or keep warm in the cold, an enchantment will only be able to heat or cool, not both, nor does the enchantment stop without being deactivated, meaning a user might freeze in the desert if they are not careful. in rare instances, permanent magic items are found, but these items have an unknown origin and have never been reproduced.   The most common form of enchantment is a one use only spell prepared in advance and stored in the object. Less common is the use of permanently enchanted objects which require a source of magic to function. Extremely rare are the items known simply as artifacts which can perform feats of magic without requiring a source of magic, as they are a source themselves. It is unknown how artifacts are created, though it is suspected by scholars that only powers can create them.
