The Imperial Palace

At the heart of Dragon' s Arch, proudly atop the rise of the ancients stands The Imperial Palace. To the everyday citizen of the Empire, it is a marvel of engineering and a symbol of Imperial Rule. To those that know the truth, it is so much more.   Build on top of an Avarian fortress the palace is a trove of ancient history that is closely guarded among only the most senior of Empire officials. The palace exterior is mostly traditionally constructed from brick and mortar but no mason yet has been able to mask the massive spire that rises over a hundred feet into the air. The function of this spire is unknown, it is angular and made of a material that none can identify, lines of blue light run the length of the spire, lighting up the palace even in the dead of night.

Purpose / Function

The installation was first built as a defensive bulwark against the dragons that warred with the Avarians. Unknown to the humans that now dwell there, the massive spire is, in fact, a hard light shield emitter that if activated via The Crown of Dominion projects a solid barrier of blue light around the structure and the surrounding land. Hidden among the walls of the installation are Macro-Pulse Cannons, technological marvels and devastating weapons that can fell even mighty dragons with their supersonic rounds. The lower levels of the installation have never been breached by any of the mortal races but the installation has a large subterranean complex where long lost secrets of the Avarians can be uncovered by those who are strong enough to overcome the automated defences.

Alterations

When Tyrus Vakarian first united the warring kingdoms of Valgarde he founded the Imperial City in the Heartlands to rule over all he had built. A traditional palace was constructed around the Avarian installation in part to take advantage of its imposing stature and the defensible location but also to protect it from those who might seek to plunder its treasures for themselves. For it was only with The Crown of Dominion that Tyrus had been able to conquer his foes in battle and with it would he maintain his rule.   A facade of brick and marble was erected around and throughout the installation, doubling the size of the structure and providing the Vakarian Emperor's with their seat of power.
