Secrets & Clues

  1. Master jao has more or less abandoned his students to work against MD, which he deems more important. Which, fair, it is, but could have been handled differently
  2. The Children of Dread are a group of people, who's goal it is to unleash Mother Dread on the world (why?)
  3. 'The Children' are a group of snobbish young adults who are dissatisfied with their lot in life & want to use Mother Dread to make a statement (aka just wreck havoc and throw a tantrum)
  4. the leader of 'The Children' found old notes & stuff of his grandmother who was (is?) a member of the Children Dread
  5. Children of Dread -> actual serious group, potential danger. 'The Children' -> a caricature of them (but who might by accident proof to be the danger of the dumb ones)
  6. The Children were the one who unleashed the abberrations on Portcall
  7. Children of Dread are using them as both scapegoats and puppets
  8. The Children meet at taverns, mostly at The Scribe and The Howling Eagle
  9. The CoD are hiding their 'lair' in some of the local smuggler caves
  10. the CoD are in conflict with the local smugglers
  11. A book on ancient history and spells went missing from one of the academics
  12. Darin Greymane is trying to get a ship from portcall. Preferably to Triham, but at this point, he is not picky, as he has the Hefazat breathing down his neck
  13. Usually there is a few number of Hefazat in Portcall - just enough to show their presence and make sure to be able to react quickly if sth actively against the crown happens. In recent days their numbers have easily tripled
  14. Portcall is on the verge of becoming an anti king powder keg. They've never been a fan, but the shipping issue has nerves on the brink of snapping
  15. There is very little shipping and seafaring going on, as the news of lost ships have started to become more frequent
  16. Erid Zaheel, one of the foremost researchers into magical storms has gone missing
  17. Prisoners send off to Wahah Bursaid have gone missing
  18. SK is not a fan of Portcall - as they don’t really see themselves as part of the empire
  19. That’s why there’s no official arcane academy here and it’s forbidden to sell high level magical items
  20. There’s sweeps every few… months? Looking for items or trouble makers of the political kind / incendiaries
  21. rumour has it (and the king is allegedly also of that belief) that the night is red dawn would have been won if saboteurs from Portcall hadn’t interfered

What might the academics know about the abberations?

  • tales of abberations on Edrax come in waves. There are smaller stories spanning the entire written history, but there's a accumulation of stories every now and again. Last one dates back to about 400 years prior (when sb tried to raise MD before, after Dreadnought killed her)
  • strange unnatural essence & auras (auras is sth researchers, esp in Kator are looking into, in regards to magical signatures
  • while story wise they seem to appear everywhere, there's a significant amount of tales and stories having them rise from the sea
  • there's the occasional solitary creature like this that hits the beach, but never anything even close to this
  • there's no real conclusive proof of what the event was that originated the New Dawn's Light holiday. The most probable theories are invaders from Khnemal, Sahuagin attacks or a massive sea creature and it's brood attacking.

What might the occultists know about the abberations?

  • omens of repeated cycles
  • a crack in the ocean floor, surrounded by a pitch black city

What might the Fire Priest know?

  • abberations are the sworn enemy to ignis primo, to be erradicated where encountered
  • deciples of the First Flame have started to have strange visions, starting maybe around 10 months ago (also maybe some other people, but those are not as easy to track and document)
  • Master Jao came to talk to him about it actually just a few months ago
