Session 7 - The Howling and Flying Warriors
Awakened by Roggo and the incongruous sound of a wolf’s howl from within the city, the group ventured to the Jug in the dark of night where they found a chained wolf being used as a guard by a local brewer of fine beers. Learning that the brewer bought the wolf from a merchant caravan after being robbed by thugs hired by a rival who stole his fine brew the group made a deal. They freed the wolf, who appeared to have a spiritual bond with Roggo. The Ranger proclaimed the wolf to Mo Mortionio or “Mo”. The group agreed to recover the stolen casks of beer and convince the brewers rival to leave him alone.
The heroes met with the rival and after a brief interrogation determined that he had stolen the beer and so recovered the casks and convinced the rival that any more action against their friend would have severe consequences.
The group strove to learn more of Chult, the land referenced on the map to the Sun Shield. Some discussions on the waterfront revealed that the jungle region was weeks away by ship. The did learn that some merchants make call at Port Nyazkul in Chult to pick up shipments of pipe weed. They also had some discussion with a ship Captain, Davo Fali, about possibly using his services in a few weeks’ time.
During this period the group spent time with Hands, who was quite pleased with a new lady friend he had made who was apparently well to do. While in the tavern Mythdanor proved his skills as a cutpurse. Old Getty also put in appearance, having completed his task of finding a sewer entrance to the Palace grounds near the Temple of Waukeen where the “The Book” was stored. In the course of developing a plan to steal The Book, the group purchased a blank book of similar size and look.
Finally, the Hawkmasks continued to be a presence in Cheapside, with five days remaining before the Festivus holiday the vigilantes continued to buy the public’s favor with silver and interfered with the Good Folk, proclaiming that Jubal was bringing order for the common folk. The group resolved to ambush a group of the violent vigilantes in an alley, with Garrak posing as an obnoxious drunk. Roggo hid under some blankets and Akir and Mythdanor scaled some nearby roofs to pounce on the foes. When the ambush was sprung on three unsuspecting Hawkmasks, who were unable to call for help due to a silence spell, all seemed to go according to plan. Mythdanor made a flawless rappel from his two-story building, surprising one of the Vigilantes. Akir also leaped into the fray with great enthusiasm. Unfortunately, his foot became caught in a shingle as he made his leap and he landed spread eagle on the pavement, feel much worse for wear. The Hawkmask that had been his target was so stunned to see a warrior falling from the sky at his feet that he was momentarily frozen, allowing the rest of the party to quickly dispatch the Hawkmasks.
As the battle ensued the group discovered that the vigilante’s blood, which soaked their weapons and the walls of the moonlit alley, was green. Upon further investigation they found that the Hawkmasks were not men at all but lizard like creatures with scales and forked tongues. A number of locals, awakened by activity outside their window as the silence spell faded, saw the reptilian forms of the Hawkmasks and began exclaiming that the Hawkmasks are demons. More neighbors, awakened by the hubbub, echoed the amazed discovery.
Garrak took a sample of their foes scales and the group departed.
