Arakah (Uh-rock-uh)

Basic Information

Anatomy

These creatures' bodies evolved to survive the terrible environmental changes on Nynäävynyma when the atmosphere began to become acidic and highly toxic. To escape the noxious fumes, Arakahs began to fly high above the clouds and stay there, over time developing additional organs that fill with gases lighter than the local air that allow them to remain afloat easier similar to a balloon. In addition, their bones are hollow and incredibly light and they wings allow them to glide for days without flapping. Their elongated heads house their surprisingly large brains, the mouth on the front end ending in a large, curved, beak-like bottom jaw. Lastly, two arm-like appendages sprout from their upper chests and end in two fingers that are more claw than digit.

Genetics and Reproduction

Baby Arakahs inherent much of their parents' psychological abilities and skills. This is important since, as they spend their whole lives flying, babies must begin to fly immediately after being born. Of course, mating also occurs in the air and offspring are typically produced one at a time but can be created in broods of as many as 3 at once.

Dietary Needs and Habits

These animals will eat almost any other living thing in the skies of Nynäävynyma, stunning them psychicly before diving down on them and impaling the prey with their claws while ripping at its flesh with their beaks.

Additional Information

Average Intelligence

Arakah's are incredibly intelligent for animals. Some argue that they would have eventually evolved to an even higher level if they haddnt been forced to stay perpetually airborne as some surprisingly complex societal structures have already been observed amongst their population; it is hard to develope a society when you cannot create anything physical since you can never touch the ground.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Arakah's lidless eyes have a thick coating over them that prevent them from freezing over or drying out. The eyes themselves are capable of seeing very far, though not as far as some other avian animals due to the thick skin cover. Much more notably, these creatures have a very unique connection to the Void. They use this connection often to hunt, battering other animals' weak psyches, putting them into a stunned state of paralysis. Once stunned, the Arakah will dive down on its now defenseless airborne prey.
